Well, after intense pressure, Jeopardy pushed back the Tournament Of Champions they were planning to do without their writing staff, who are currently on strike. So, good for them. I also happened to look ahead at August, which broke my heart. Why are all the best shows ending this year? Breeders, Reservation Dogs, and Archer all return for their final seasons in August. 8) American Born Chinese (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet Renewed The scene between Michelle Yeoh and Stephanie Szu was the best moment, but this show still feels so disconnected with these different storylines, and … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/25/23

Just a small note to kick us off today, if you happened to be one of those fans who loved Grease: Rise Of The Pink Ladies, and were broken when paramount Plus cancelled the series and dropped it, good news! It is getting a physical media release. So you can own it forever and ever. No word on if the audio description will follow it to the DVD release. 11) Futurama (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: revival (Season 11) is now available. So I’m still on Season 2. It’s gonna take me a while to get to 11. The … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/24/23

I read that George RR Martin’s deal with HBo has been suspended, and I wonder why. Is he a member of the WGA? There’s another GOT show in early development, and i would think they’d still need him for house of The Dragon, which I last heard was still shooting in England. 13) Skull Island (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not yet Renewed This one for me just comes down to the voice cast, and what is this show trying to do, and what does it want to be? I felt that Jurassic World: camp Cretaceous managed to have … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/23/23

Not sure I have any mind blowing TV news.Oh, it would appear there is a new episode of invincible on Prime for anyone who missed out on that push notification yesterday. I’m assuming it’s something they got at Comic Con. 11) Young Sheldon (MAX) English audio Description?: Yes Status: Renewed I didn’t really watch anything I didn’t like yesterday. Sheldon just lost because it wasn’t a standout episode. Sheldon saw himself as an old soul, and was disappointed when he realized he’s just a kid… and can’t date an adult. Episode Grade: B 10) 8 Simple Rules (Disney Plus) English … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/22/23

We have some news finally out of comic con. In The Walking Dead Universe, The Walking Dead: Dead City and Daryl Dixon both have gotten second season pickups. Meanwhile, Amazon was able to run a promo for the upcoming second season of Invincible, and Peacock showed off the upcoming John Wick spinoff The Continental, which was originally being developed at Starz. Sadly, that last project is only 3 episodes. 11) The Full Monty (Hulu) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited The thing is, this show is just one of the growing trend of baffling revivals where people are brought back … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/21/23

In TV News, FX’s new Alien show is starting filming despite the SAG strike. I’m assuming they have some principal photography they can be doing, and probably are using some non-union talent. 11) Clarissa Explains it All (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended Why is Clarissa’s dad hanging out with Sam and going to the mall with just Sam? Man, my childhood was a simpler time. Dude has two kids, but he’s bonding with Clariss’as friend who presumably has parents. Not really the point of this episode, but that was my takeaway. Episode Grade: C+ 10) All In … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/20/23

NBC announced some solid news items yesterday. Apparently, they were the only smart network, and actually have episodes banked. So, in the fall, new episodes of Magnum PI, Quantum Leap, and two new dramas, Found, and The Irrational will be airing opposite reality shows and reruns from other networks. 12) The Golden Girls (Hulu) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Ended I’m not going to deep dive this episode, but the direct answer is that this episode wouldn’t exist in todays landscape. Sure, someone will point out that deep inside the barrage of offensive jokes is a heart somewhere, which is … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/19/23

It’s funny how that last episode of Silo that I reviewed yesterday felt so much like a Season Finale, and so many streaming shows cap at 8, I just thought that was the finale. Apparently not. Hah. Damn, that will be hard to top. In other TV news, I’m still supporting the actors and writers for striking to not be replaced by AI. If they don’t do it now, they won’t be working later anyway. Although, the studios current proposal on scanning background talent to use their likeness in perpetuity really makes me wonder who would go be a background … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/18/23

I’ve been deep diving a bit more into the SAG-AFTRA talks and some of the stuff they’re requesting isn’t unreasonable. Actually, none of it is. Just take some of these CEO salaries, lower them, and you’ll have the money to pay for some of this stuff. Also, for the poor people without cable or Peacock, Yellowstone is coming to CBS in the fall since they are a little short on new programming. Add to that, the UK version of Ghosts, which I’m at least interested in checking out.

12) 8 Simple Rules (Disney plus) English Audio Description?: No Sorry, this was a tough day to rank, and 8 Simple Rules just felt like it missed a mark the most. This episode had a solid reference to Three’s Company, but squandered the “kids out of the house” moment by not letting the adults actually have any meaningful time together. john Ritter’s time on the show was fleeting, and I can’t help but think this missed a mark to show that Paul and Kate were more than just parents. What made it worse was that Kate tried so hard to … Continue reading I’ve been deep diving a bit more into the SAG-AFTRA talks and some of the stuff they’re requesting isn’t unreasonable. Audio description. It’s time Hollywood made that the norm, isn’t it? Anyway, i digress. 10) Outlander (Starz) English Audio Description?: No Status: Final Season So, I realized before starting to watch Season 7, i couldn’t remember where we left off. This show is hard enough to watch without audio description, but on top of that it has long gaps between seasons. So, like I did with The Witcher, I’m rewatching a bit. However, I only dropped back 1 season, to Season 6. Even with that, how the season opened, I was like… did I need to rewatch five? I remember … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/16/23

Your fall TV lineup from the networks looks really different. Lots of game shows, reality shows, and non-scripted programming, plus content from the international market. 9) Dinosaurs (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I’m into the second season now. Junior ends up at his dad’s worksite. Will his dad’s boss eat him? These are the deep questions. It’s amazing how many people out there have no problem consuming the work of the SAG and WGA but are complaining now because they think actors are little babies. While streaming residuals are a factor, since syndication and linear viewing are down, it is not the only factor. The use of AI technology is a key factor in both guilds. The writers do not want AI to be a credited screenwriter taking over their job, nor do the SAG want AI images of them used in perpetuity. The major studios and networks want to do things like scan crowd scenes … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/14/23
