RIP Elaine Stritch

Elaine Stritch, a Hollywood legend, has passed away. She was 89. Known most recently for playing Jack’s mother on 30 Rock, Stritch’s career spanned over 60 years in Hollywood, including have the great pleasure of being a muse to Cole Porter.

She first got her big break on Television, being featured on shows like Calvacade Of Stars, Kraft Theatre, The Motorola Television Hour, and Goodyear Playhouse. Yes, kids, there was a time when well known brands had their own fully sponsored hour of Television.

After working in television for many years, Stritch ended up with a major supporting role in  A Farewell To Arms, and later her own starring role in the psychological thriller Kiss Her Goodbye. She remained a TV actress the whole time, taking roles in True Story, My Sister Eileen, and The Trials Of O’Brien. She starred in four seasons of Two’s Company, and played Aunt Polly in the Pollyanna TV series.

More recently, she starred with Jennifer Lopez and Jane Fonda in Monster In Law, Richard Gere in Autumn in New York, and Hugh Grant in Small Time Crooks.

She’s an Emmy winner, for an episode of Law and Order, her role on 30 Rock, and a one woman memoir musical special Elaine Stritch At Liberty.

Her heart though truly belongs on Broadway, where she started, in Bus Stop, Show Boat, and Company. It is here where she worked with legends like Cole Porter and Stephen Sondheim.

Elaine Stritch touched all corners of Hollywood, and will be remembered by everyone in every outlet.
