1994 was a much simpler time. It was before YouTube, and the internet explosion that allows people to instant gratification of laughter through brief videos. It was before Seth Macfarlane changed the comedy landscape with Family Guy. It was before The Farrelly Brothers had their raunchy hit There’s Something About Mary. All of those successes have impacted the way the Dumb franchise operates, and it has been made Dumber because of it.
Watching this was one of the most painful experiences in film, because I really wanted the film to be good, but it was just so awful. I never laughed. The entire film, full of a ton of gags never elicited an actual laugh. Some of the jokes made me smirk, but that was really maybe only three times. Otherwise, it’s a massive waste of time and celluloid. It’s a completely different film from the first one, and feels impacted by the comedy landscape around it. It’s a shame, because the first film is a comedy classic, and the second didn’t need to change so much.
