Into The Storm

Starring: Richard Armitage, Sarah Wayne Callies, Matt Walsh, Arlen Escarpeta, Jon Reep, Jeremy Sumpter, Max Deacon, Nathan Kress
Directed By: Steven Quale

I miss Twister. Twister wasn’t a perfect movie, but it told a good story and had a good storm with special effects that were good for the time (and still kinda hold up today). Into The Storm won’t even be remembered next year. It’ll be that movie that if anyone owns, will look at their DVD collection and go “what is this film?”

The problem is that the story isn’t memorable. The two main adult characters both want to get back to their kids. Could we not have had a different story? And just like Twister, we have storm chasers. Only this time, they’re boring too. The movie is almost saved by having some really cool and inventive tornado sequences that really put you into the middle of a tornado. The destruction is epic, but it’s hard to care too much when you don’t care about the actors in the film.

The teenagers in the film needed some acting classes. I suppose our big three adults (Armitage, Callies, Walsh) do good in their roles, but they’re barely given anything to do other than look terrified. There isn’t a whole lot of acting here. Also, for many people who have lived through tornadoes, it’s hard to accept this as entertainment. It just reminds us how much of a bitch nature can be.
