The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/10/23

22 Years Later. I was in my first year of college, and before I left for class, the news had the first plane hit the World Trade Center tower. by the time I got to the school, kids were in the atrium watching the news, as the second plane had hit, and no one really knew what was happening. I went to class, but instead of learning math, we continued to watch the footage, and halfway through class, my teacher let us go. I had a second class, which I waited around for only to do basically the same thing. TBy this time, news had spread about the plane at the Pentagon, and a plane that had crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.

I worked at the movie theatre that day, and it was a weekday in September, so there wasn’t projected to be a lot of attendance anyway. no one came. My manager pulled out a radio, and we listened. I had made it a point to get gas at my mom’s behest, figuring there would be a rush on it later. This was when gas was still about a dollar, sometimes under. Sure enough, after I got gas, people started lining up.

Never Forget.

10) Daryl Dixon (AMC Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Renewed

One of the most hurtful things, no matter how silly this may sound, is how my enjoyment of the Walking Dead universe has been challenged so much due to the lack of accessibility. It is one of the least accessible programs, and every spinoff has the same theme. Almost every single episode I’ve had to watch with a friend telling me what was happening, or reading a recap and spoiling the whole episode before hand, or both. Sadly, no one wanted to watch Daryl Dixon with me, and to my continued soul crushing experience that AMC continues to have no problem putting me in, most of the dialogue is in French. So, not only is this a series with limited dialogue, but we’ve now also got a language barrier. watching this, knowing that a year ago I heard from AMC reps about their plan to expand audio description, and still not seeing that plan come to fruition, really sends me the message that i do not matter as a human being to AMC Plus. I can come to no other conclusion than AMC hates blind people, or hates me personally, and is doing this to disrupt my life. The Walking Dead is my favorite series of all time, and it’s like being trapped in an abusive relationship. Not physical, but one where the thing you love is trying to mentally destroy you. I was looking forward to at least trying to stumble through this, but this was a soul crushing experience.

Episode Grade: Unwatchable

9) Captain Fall (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Not yet Renewed

It’s sad that this couldn’t be at the bottom, since I immediately removed this unfunny animated show from my continue watching right after. All of the jokes were terrible. I never laughed, I groaned. One of the worst series in recent memory. having sex to the rhythm of a metronome? That was supposed to be a joke?

Episode Grade: D-

8) 8) Cheers (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: No

Status: Ended

I’m just at this place in the series where it feels like they are actively trying to get Shelly Long to quit, by writing Diane Chambers to be the most annoying person on the show. In this episode, she decides she wants to be a ballet dancer, but she’s awful, and the gang at the bar try to do her a solid and make her feel better, which just pushes her delusion further.

Episode Grade: C+

7) Clarissa Explains it All (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Ended

Actually one of the stronger episodes. Ferguson is gone dong walking for money, and Clarissa’s parents are on the opposite sides of a debate, and it’s up to Clarissa to bring them together. I was pleasantly surprised this week.

5) The lost Flowers of Alice Heart (Amazon)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: Limited

I’m interested in seeing where this Sigourney Weaver show goes. A little girl has an abusive father until she decides she’s had enough. The previews of future episodes have her growing up to adult age and exploring this life of hers. The pilot was pretty good, but I wasn’t blown away.

Episode Grade: B+

1) Solar Opposites (hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Status: not Yet Renewed

Well, that’s one way to replace a toxic voice actor. instead of doing what Rick and Morty is trying to do by matching the voice, Solar Opposites introduced a plot that just changed the voice to something completely different, and now we’ve got Dan Stevens sounding like Dan Stevens. Very unapologetically. Doesn’t even sound remotely the same.
