The talk shows are back! Last Week Tonight was new last night, and your network all-stars come back today.
14) Daryl Dixon (AMC Plus)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Renewed
I think this might have been the most French in an episode so far, and I barely got anything out of this. I know Daryl tortured someone, they lost the boy, but the boy ended back with his father that runs a nightclub in the catacombs. So, as natural as it is for AMC Plus to continue to not run this show with accessibility, I am giving this the same grade as last week.
Episode Grade: unwatchable
13) Happy Endings (Roku)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
Every once in a while, when I watch too many things in one day, when I wake up the next morning to do the recap, I literally have forgotten an entire episode. I have no idea what happened, so this one just isn’t getting graded, but I’d like to acknowledge this show was watched and is still on the Roku channel.
Episode Grade: no Grade Given
12) The Hardy Boys (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Final Season
So the gang was all together, and had not Frank tied up, and they are doing that thing where they don’t tell the adults anything again. Look, these adults have seen some crazy stuff. Just level with them, so frank can’t manipulate them. I’m sure they’ll believe the entire group of kids over just Not Frank. If this is going to be the final season, why not get every series regular on the same page?
Episode Grade: C+
11)The Changeling (Apple Plus)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Limited Series
While there are some weird things that transpire in the pilot, the trailer for this show goes way harder than the pilot did, which basically showed parallel relationships for the dominant part of the episode. It just felt long, like they were stretching for time, and was one of the more uninteresting pilots I’ve seen lately. I’ll watch another episode, but I’m shockingly not excited for it.
Episode Grade: C+
10) Virgin River (Netflix)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Probably Renewed
Mel and Jack go camping. Preacher really wants to see Kaya again. Doc goes fishing with his grandson and muses on his macular degeneration diagnosis. And I’m supposed to believe that a town with one bar/restaurant has a day spa.
Episode Grade: B-
9) Home Improvement (Hulu)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
Brad writes an article for the paper, which Randy thinks is terrible, but he’s pushed into making nice with his brother anyway. This episode is probably one of the reasons Jonathan Taylor Thomas left the show early.
Episode Grade: B-
8) Boy Meets World (Disney Plus)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
Cory and Shawn pretend to be in a band to get girls, until that band is hired to perform at a concert, and the jig is up.
Episode Grade: B-
7) Young Sheldon (MAX)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: renewed
I loved the line from the Pastor where he says “I did pray to God for people to take more interest in my sermons, I just need to be more specific next time.” One of the great things about this show is the dynamic between Sheldon and his pastor.
Episode Grade: B
6) Tiny Toons Looniversity (MAX)
English Audio Description?: yes
Status: Unknown
Hell yes I checked this out. It also has audio description! I was a big fan of Tiny Toons growing up, so I was interested in seeing where they took the reboot. There’s a big focus on a handful, with the regular adult Looney Tunes showing up as professors. But, for fans of Buster, Babs, Plucky, Hampton, and Sweety, you should enjoy this. The voices are obviously different, though I feel like the person voicing Babs is also voicing SSweety. And for the amount of screentime they share, it made it a little maddening.
Episode Grade: B
5) Mad Men (AMC Plus)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
One of the shows that bounces between watchable and not, this episode did have a moment featuring a commercial that I would have wanted to see if there wasn’t a scene earlier where one of the characters describes that scene in full detail. Mainly, this was a solid episode as Don tries to convince people that Jai-Alai is stupid, and Betty’s dad passes.
Episode Grade: B+
4) Everwood (FreeVee)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Ended
one of the rare episodes without audio description to break into the top tier, the second episode of season 2 has everyone thinking about college. Unfortunately for Bright, his school has just hired a guidance counselor who notices that Bright didn’t actually pass his summer math course, and pulls him from the football team, which was Bright’s path to college. Bright is upset, and even more so when people tell him to use Colin as an excuse. There are some great lines here, especially in the scene between Bright and his father, who supports using Colin as an excuse. One of them had Bright telling his dad that maybe if the most interesting thing about him is that he has a dead best friend then he shouldn’t go to college. Then his dad says the thing he can’t take back, shouting “you’re not smart enough.” He probably knew that in the back of his head, as he did just fail a math class, but to hear that from your dad? Damn.
Episode Grade: A-
3) Frasier (Paramount Plus)
English Audio Description?: No
Status: Revival Coming This Month
Kind of a big episode for the series, it featured Frasier pulling out his back, and while he’s high on pain killers he tells Daphne about Niles’s crush on her. Game changer.
Episode Grade: A-
2) Veep (MAX)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: Ended
Selina walks into a glass door. Jonah is told to rip his face off and give it to Selina, but to get her to say she’s not running against the President. But, Selina also isn’t sure she wants to be attached to a sinking ship. This was a pretty hilarious episode, as Selina was high on painkillers, an oddly recurring theme for the day.
Episode Grade: A
1) Gen V (Amazon)
English Audio Description?: Yes
Status: I’m Sure It’s Renewed
I’m already a fan of The boys, and the spinoff crafted itself so well in its image. This is gory, edgy, and totally unafraid. Plus, the first episode has an ending you won’t forget, and a lead character who controls blood. And yes, there are penises.
