Is Hulu broken, or did The Great North and Grimmsburg just air one episode each and then take a massive break? Not that either show has audio description, but how weird. Especially for the former, which is a returning series, so how would a “preview” even work? In TV news, they are working on a Book Of Eli prequel series with John Boyega. I know, all of you who have been asking for this for the last 14 years have really been pounding the pavement on this, and you are finally getting it. \sarcasm
I did devour another episode of My Life With The Walter Boys (Netflix), which from what I can tell seems to have leveled off on the audio description quality following my initial complaints from the pilot. I still wish I knew more about what these characters look like that I’m going to spend the next few seasons with. An example was in this Thanksgiving episode, the oft mentioned uncle comes to visit. No idea what he looks like. Richard just walked through a door. Bam. Use your imagination. I’d like to imagine that he walked in the door dressed like a pirate, but he wasn’t wearing any pants. So, instead of the parrot sitting on his shoulder, it was sitting on his… well… you know. I wonder how the creators of the series would feel about my interpretation of that character. Oh, and blackface. He’s doing it all in blackface. I mean, he could be, it’s not like the audio description bothered to tell me otherwise.
It’s not until you watch two shows back to back that you realize they have the same narrator, and that happened with Billions (Paramount Plus) and A Murder At The End Of The World (Hulu). The latter of the two was the final episode, meaning I know who committed the murders. It predictably involved exactly who I thought it would from day one. There’s a nice little twist, so I won’t totally firebomb the show, but if you’re going to cast only one Oscar nominee whose name typically appears above the line in the show, perhaps work harder to make the endgame seem less obvious. Just a thought. Billions was the second to last, which means next week, I officially say goodbye to the SDNYC and AxeCap. I remember Showtime saying they were doing other shows in this universe, and I’m really pulling for future shows featuring Taylor and Wags, either separately or together.
And Ted (Peacock) tackled porn. I normally hate the audio description in this show, but I giggled at one character being labeled “the porn enthusiast”, and the audio description on the mother and that banana was about as good as we were going to get without the audio description turning into porn itself.
Sadly, anything else I watched did not have audio description.
