A couple of quick items of business to discuss. Disney not surprisingly went ahead and renewed Abbott Elementary for a 4th season. Honestly, I don’t know why it gets 1 season pickups. Dick Wolf’s dramas still get multi-year deals. Does ABC think Abbott isn’t going to go for a 5th season? Just give it a 2 year deal. Or hell, a 3 year deal. Disney is also sticking with Goosebumps, which I think is a good call, and is considering airing the second season of Only Murders In The Building on linear TV at some point. Also, The Golden Bachelorette. Or as we like to call it, Cougar Town. I kid, I kid. But seriously, I wonder how low the age will go for the men competing for her affection.
I wrapped up Reacher (Amazon), which is always too short. It ends on a solid note, and I will wait with anticipation for the 3rd season they are already casting and putting together. I’m quite surprisingly a big fan of this series. I didn’t think I would be, but it has some pretty good narration. Paula Hoffman? That’s just a guess.
Squid Game: The Challenge (Netflix) has eliminated basically anyone I was rooting for at any stage in the competition. This episode finishes the glass walk, and then 12 become 9 through random rolls of the die. Nine remain to possibly win, and I no longer have a favorite. It seems like the editors chose people to highlight along the way to make their eliminations much harder, but then that just means I’m left with nine people I don’t care for. I guess Sam? Definitely not Ashley. I love how when the table was turned against her, she’s all like “this is not what we agreed on”, yet she refused to go in front of Trey. I would have done the same thing, assuming there was no chance Ashley would have nominated herself.
Masters Of The Air (Apple Plus) is still a solid war drama with some strong performances. I’m not sure it’s quite at that Band Of Brothers level yet, but I enjoyed the squabbling between the American and British troops in the second episode.
And I sat through a misguided What if (Disney plus) that thought I might want to know what would happen if Hela was inserted into Shang Chi. This season started strong, but the last few episodes haven’t interested me at all.
