The Small Screen Diaries- 05/29/24

Not only did I finish a show today, but I started one. I finally jumped into the second season of the pretty little Liars (MAX) reboot, which is now called Summer School. the first season of this was hot trash, but in the way you think it is trying to be. Like, when people try to make something campy, instead of waiting for the world to decide it is camp. The season premiere opens up with the killer being maybe on the loose again, some people dying, and the five girls are relegated to summer school while A might be locking to murder everyone. This should be bloody.

And, I finished two shows. The veil (Hulu) actually finished strong. I really enjoyed the last, extended episode. this was a show I didn’t know if I was going to stick around after a rather lackluster premiere, but it did get better and better, and the finale was solid. I wouldn’t be surprised if it got some Emmy nominations.

Also, while he’s up against some strong competition, Jonah Hower King was perfect for all six episodes of The Tattooist Of Auschwitz (Peacock), which I’v also wrapped. It has a rather dark ending, which you might have gathered from Harvey Keitel being wrought with guilt all the time. I love Melanie Lynskey, but please don’t waste an Emmy nom on her here. This might be the least interesting role she’s had. Up against Yellowjackets, there would be no comparison.

I’m another episode deep into Bridgerton (Netflix), which is shaping up nicely. I actually like this show. I like the dynamics and the writing, though it has a massive cast, and sometimes someone is in an episode and I can’t remember who that character is. The stuff involving pregnancy and making them drink some raw egg to help it be a boy was hilarious. People used to believe stuff like that.

And, Dark Matter (Apple Plus) continues to get better with every episode. This week, they find one of the others who went into the box, in their completely messed up world. And we see Jason 2 has a plan to keep old Jason out of his world, forever. Plus, Amanda is reminded that she needs to think about what happens to her once she does reunite Jason 1 with his family.

I also watched older episodes of The golden girls (Hulu) and veep (MAX), both of which have audio description.
