It looks like the social media trend that had people turning on audio description for Bridgerton to make it steamier, is now also happening for The Acolyte, as people are watching the most recent episode where Manny Jacinto is shirtless and bathing himself. I’m all for this trend. turning on audio description creates a visible metric to the companies tasked with providing it, and their entire model is about providing things that will make them money and bring in subscribers. So if this really became a thing, I could see a streamer taking full advantage of it by trying to ride this trend into more subscribers, which could mean more audio description.
Also, totally unrelated, but my dream last night was trippy. Yesterday, I put out my review of Trigger Warning, which is not a film I liked, and then I dreamt of meeting Jessica Alba and telling her to her face that she should have passed on trigger Warning, and she was affronted. Hilarious. I don’t think I would ever do that. If I met Alba, I would probably try to avoid talking about this movie altogether, even if it was a press tour for this movie.
House of the Dragon (MAX) was amazing. Like, nothing else compared. That fight between the dragons, and the consequences, that’s all I have to say. I was absolutely fucking riveted. I don’t believe that the writers always feel like every moment has to come right out of the source material, so I don’t directly pay heed to that all there time, but this was fantastic. Watch it. I don’t want to spoil it. Do not let this get spoiled for you.
I got through episode 8 of Trying (Apple Plus), which had the most obvious ending. After what happened in the previous episode, I had a feeling Kat would just show up out of nowhere, and she did. Hopefully Princess can understand why Nikki didn’t want to tell her she met Kat and that when she told Kat about princess, she ran. Also, Kat isn’t a great role model, since they broke into a house. So…
Pretty Little Liars: Summer School (MAX) killed off its biggest character yet, in an episode where they tried one last time to mislead the audience as to who the killers are. I already figured it out last episode, and when I reach the final episode, I will tell you how and why. The allusion is so strong here. this show pays a lot of random homage to other horror movies all the time, like how in this episode, the teacher starts taking roll and she calls Ellen Ripley. That’s Sigourney Weaver’s character from Alien. And I don’t think that was random.
Another episode of Queenie (Hulu), which is really an interesting exploration, at times, of self worth, and how the past damages how you see yourself, and what you allow yourself to consider as love. It doesn’t always land, but after a weird start in the first episode, I had no idea the trajectory this would take, and I see it now. I feel like this would have made for a great movie, contained with thoughts and ideas, instead of making for just a good streaming series. It tends to wander at times, or fill its runtime with stuff that could have been cut if this was a film screenplay instead of for a show.
Our geek Girl (Netflix) returned home, and her dad had to pick up the life he left behind, which surprisingly didn’t devolve into his wife throwing a giant tantrum. I love when the writers take the path less taken. However, Nat’s relationship is so strained, that when our Geek is late, due to actual car trouble, Nat is already upset and uses that as the excuse to have a fight. Again, Nat should have been in the loop from the beginning, so this storyline I support. Don’t ghost your literal only friend.
In shows I’m catching up on, or rewatching, I’m still getting through Resident Alien (Peacock) from Season 1, and I watched a Season 4 episode of Friends (MAX) where Chandler is really into Joey’s girlfriend, and joey is seeing other girls, and Chandler doesn’t know what to do.Matthew Perry was so talented. I wish we had been able to help him. RIP.
