Billed as a daisy Ridley and Clive Owen film, we’re already kicking off on a lie. Clive Owen is here so they can use his name, as I guess they figure Daisy Ridley can’t carry a film on her own. It is one of those frustrating surprise early exits, like Steven Seagal in Executive decision. Then he leaves Ridley in a film for which she’s horribly miscast.
This is basically Die Hard, with Ridley playing a window cleaner who just so happens to also be a veteran with weapons training. She is given an autistic brother to care for, who is with her when the shit hits the proverbial fan. Suddenly, everyone is in danger, and it’s up to Ridley to stop it. there’s even a cop on the ground for her to communicate with.
I liked Ridley as rey in the new Star Wars films, but she’s had a few projects after that lack some luster, and it’s her job as a window cleaner now to make this shine. It feels like a film written for Jason Statham or John Cena, and then everyone logical said no. Probably even when they started asking female action stars, they were turning this down. It is such an ill fit for Ridley, who is far more charismatic, and is pushed into an uncharacteristically gruff hero. She’s like this, probably because this was intended for someone else
Aside from that, this film has no known audio description. So, it was a very unpleasant experience overall to try and sit through. An action movie where I don’t know who is being shot at, or from where, or how Ridley is sneaking in, or any of the multitudes of visual aspects of an action film. I had a hard time following it beyond the basic set up. I’m not sure I’d enjoy the movie either way, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to blind or low vision users in its current state. I also have a feeling that I wouldn’t be recommending either way.
