The Small Screen Diaries: 06/13/25

TV Shows Watched: Duster: S1E5 (MAX) with audio description, And Just Like that: S3E3 (MAX) with audio description, Drag Race All Stars: S10E6 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, Destination X: S1E3 (Peacock) with audio description, Dark Winds: S1E4 (Netflix) no audio description,The narrow Road to The Deep north: S1E4 (Amazon) with audio description, F1: The Academy: S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description, The Kardashians: S2E1 (Hulu) with audio description, Breaking Bad: S1E1 (Netflix) with audio description.

best Episode: Breaking Bad- As I start to finally watch Breaking Bad, after having it on my checklist forever, that pilot was terrific. I actually saw the whole series of better Call Saul, with no reference other than my general pop culture knowledge and expertise. time to buckle down.

Runner Up: Duster- This episode was fun, and continues to push this crime caper forward. Jim’s dad is now helping, and after falling out of grace last episode, Jim found his way right back in. And, that bad guy reveal at the end was the least surprising and most obvious reveal in TV History of the last 50 years. Someone wake JJ Abrams up, because I almost gave away the runner-up spot for his basic ass approach to this. I love how the narrator first mentioned that we initially didn’t see the face, and I was like, if it is that guy… and of course it was. of course it was.

Best Audio description: Duster- I’ll just be flipping the two best shows. i think duster had some tight action at the wedding I liked, and another solid car chase.

runner Up: Breaking Bad- But, they also had a lot here too, involving a raid on a house, and also a scene in the RV. And, the show does open with a well described car accident of sorts.

Best performance: the Ensemble (The Narrow Road To the deep North)- this is one of the hardest, most difficult TV shows to get through, and the actors constantly have to depict being tortured or being afraid for their life. I know Jacob Elordi is here, but I’m not sure he’s the only one deserving of praise, and I’m finding it a bit hard to follow the cast. So, everyone wins.

runner Up: the melodrama (the Kardashians)- Not really an individual performer, but listening to everyone try and cheer up Khloe, with things like :”no one deserves this more than you”, as she expresses malaise over her impending newborn because it is coming through surrogate, it felt really heavy handed. Like, these girls are so rich, one of them found a condo they forgot they owned, in the same episode. Nobody deserves it more? Perhaps, a lot of people deserve a lot of things more, if you own property you have the ability to forget about. that would be nice. I think I understand what hate watching is now. At least she can afford surrogacy, or pay for it without it cratering her life savings. Cry me a river.

Best Moment Of Audio Description: The Wedding Escape/Car Chase (Duster)- it is kind of the same scene. So, I’m linking that sequence together.

runner Up: Know Your Periodic Table (Breaking Bad)- Walt finds a way to get rid of his problem in a very creative way.

Worst Of…- I wish dark Winds had both seasons described. I’m picking up a little here and there each episode, which is better than just skipping to Season 2, maybe. But this is not a fun series to watch without audio description. Since Dark Winds hasn’t been cancelled yet, and could still grow its audience, perhaps consider describing the whole thing? just a thought.

Say Something!
