What is it?: With a dash of science fiction thrown in, the movie centers on two individuals who ignore their actual chemistry because in this reality there is a test to match you with your soulmate, and it is someone else. Still, these two remain inseparable, as wee see little moments of their lives moving forward, friend zoned, and still obviously in love.

Why it Doesn’t Work: I’m not sure how many times I checked my phone, but it was a lot.Admittedly, I watch a lot of films cold, with no knowledge of what it is, or who is in it. I found myself thinking the whole film “who are these people?” I didn’t care for their performances, and they have no chemistry. We’ve done this type of film before, even Apple tackled this with fingernails. The best films rely heavily on raw chemistry. Goldstein and Poots feel about as in love as reality show contestants who know the camera is on them.

Goldstein’s performance is uncharacteristically flat. he delivers every line with nearly the exact same level of awkwardness, no matter how dramatically ffrought the situation. Poots is decent in the flaky and flighty moments, but brings nothing to the chemistry with anyone.

Thinking about like minded films, I’m reminded of just how perfectly Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy were in the Before Sunrise trilogy. Palpable chemistry in other romances, which go on to have their own set of ‘shippers who feel the love in the air.

When you are in a commonly travelled genre, you need more than just a derivative screenplay with a dash of science fiction. i needed Brett Goldstein to bring his quality from Shrinking and Ted Lasso, but that is sorely missing here.

The Audio Description: It is mostly talking, with a few visuals, like a well described beach.

Why You Might Like it: You’re a sucker for love.

Why You Might Like it: There are better entries for you to Netflix and chill to.

Final thoughts: Featuring underwhelming performances, and excruciating pacing for a film of this length, All of You retreads all of its themes, from all the better films.

Rotten: 3.5/10
