What is it?: Liam Neeson’s brother dies and his dying wish is to have his ashes scattered on Mount Everest. So, 73 year old Neeson flies to Nepal to climb Mount Everest to do just that, but is thwarted on his journey by a local criminal enterprise. Time to unleash some vengeance.

What Doesn’t Work: what a baffling sequel. Did we need this? did anyone want this? I know we can say that about a lot of late stage Neeson films, but this one especially feels like it never needed to exist. Since it does exist, if you just pretend it is a stand alone film, he has made worse films. This one has some cheesy action scenes tht reminded me of older action titles like Sniper and Missing In action. this very much feels straight-to-video, and has the kind of blatantly awful dialogue to compliment it.

My favorite line of dialogue is when our guide with fighting capabilities offers to train one of the random civilians. So, she over sells the experience of learning to kick some butt, and then needs a response from Star. Her response to a yes/no question is direct, but only gets a “I guess that’s good enough” type response. What did you want? For her to do a backflip?

Otherwise, this is a film where Neeson is getting too old for this shit, and they push off some of the action onto Bing Bing Fan. This allows for Neeeson to be incapacitated, or to have Fan do the hand to hand combat stuff while Neeson mean mugs and shoots his victims. Let’s face it, Liam Neeson has never been able to do a roundhouse kick, so he needs all the help he can get. If you were hoping Neeson’s career was in turnaround, it’s not. However, if you somehow made it through films like Memory, this should be a breeze.

The Audio Description: A pretty solid action film with some very well described action sequences. It was what I expected it to be. Sadly, unlike some better action movies this year, it lacks the memorable complexities simply because the film is redundant and derivative.

Why You Might Like it: you are a Liam Neeson junkie.

Why You Might Not Like it: Do you remember Ice Road? Neither do I.

Final Thoughts: Neeson made a forgettable sequel to a forgettable film, with all the trappings we’ve come to expect from late stage Neeson, who once was a man with a particular set of skills, but now is a man in need of a new genre to embrace.
