Podcasts: The Movies That Made Me (with Giovanni Ribisi) YouTube: None Movies: None So, breaking away from my three day rant, and moving back into the specifics. I truly didn’t fully understand the whole giant thing in Time Bandits. So, what I’m picking up on is that the bandits arrived, and found their lost member living in a little home with (I’ll leave that part out because of spoilers), and at the end of … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/22/24

The Smallest Screen Diaries- 08/21/24

This is almost pointless. But, I didn’t want to not do one. I think this is the least amount of television I’ve watched in a single day ie day. I think maybe I’ve come close before, or I’m forgetting another day or something, but I watched one show. I think that makes me decidedly too normal, and the bait here is do I talk about that one show, or not? TV Show Watched: Time Bandits: S1E9 (Apple plus) with audio description. So, Time bandits is OK. Not just is the audio description fine, but the show isn’t blowing my mind. … Continue reading The Smallest Screen Diaries- 08/21/24

TV News: big news. Disney officially cancelled The Acolyte, which so many of their shows just get these vague “maybe” endings where you might see something out of them later, but they don’t typically close the door on too many Star Wars or Marvel content. Yes, The Bad Batch now has a definitive ending, but even though The Mandalorian is transferring to its own film, there’s no specific determination that no more episodic versions of that could be in its long term future. TV Shows Watched: The Ark: S2E4 (Peacock) with audio description and unstable: S2E9 (Netflix) with audio description. … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/20/24

TV News: I didn’t even get a chance to dive into it, but I saw that Danielle Fishel (Boy Meets World) announced she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Boy Meets World was such a centerpiece of my childhood, and Topanga is a huge part of that. Even though her career has been limited following the show, I’m still a fan. I wish her a speedy and full recovery, and cancer sucks. Real talk. I mentioned last week that because I work in education (shockingly, ranting on a blog does not pay the bills), the first couple weeks and the … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/19/24

TV News: I noticed that Shrinking preview finally, confirming a mid-October release for the second season of the Jason Segal/harrison Ford comedy. And, in somewhat fun news, Homicide: life on The Streets makes its streaming debut this week on peacock. I’m positive it won’t have audio description, but I’m still making a note for die hard fans of the show. TV Shows Watched: Interview With A Vampire: S2E5 (AMC Plus) No Audio Description, Bel Air: S3E3 (Peacock) with audio description, UnPrisoned: S2E8 (Hulu) with audio description, and The Traitors UK: S2E? Young Woman And The Sea

Up front, I want to be honest with you. Yes, you. David Spade. I know you are reading my site. Actually, I don’t know that, but wouldn’t that be pretty cool? But in all honesty, I’m about to break some sacred rule of film criticism, but it is one I’m being honest about, and I feel like the thing in itself is a valid criticism. I fell asleep. It isn’t that this film is so terrible it put me to sleep, it was just dull. Nyad had just come out a few months prior, and managed to really make it … Continue reading Young Woman And The Sea

Sad TV News: TV Show Cancellations. Amazon brought the axe down on My Lady Jane after just one season. I thought that show had just really started to discover itself in the back half of the season, but I’m sure a lot of people just didn’t give it the time. Also, Wicked Tuna was cancelled, which feels like that show was on forever. And Netflix cancelled something called “Buying Beverly Hills”, which apparently has two seasons. TV Shows: Bel Air: S3E2 (peacock) with audio description, The GOAT: Season Finale (Amazon) with audio description, Unstable: S2E5 (Netflix) with audio description, and 911: … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/17/24

The Strangers: Chapter One

I think this franchise missed their calling. Just imagine, if you will, rewinding to before we knew anything specific about this film. We have a preconceived notion of what this film might be, but then, we open on The Strangers instead of any victims. A young lady approaches the cabin door and knocks. It opens. “Is Tamra here?” The young woman asks, like in the previous Strangers films, and the audience thinks they know what is up. The camera pans around to show Hannibal Lecter, “Why, Yes, won’t you come in? We’re having a nice chianti.” bewildered, the young lady … Continue reading The Strangers: Chapter One

TV News: You will be forgiven for not remembering either of these shows since their second seasons took *forever*, but both The Old Man (FX/Hulu) and Tulsa King (Paramount Plus) will be airing their second seasons in September. I believe The Old Man was conceived as a 2 season show, but nowadays that means nothing. Shogun was a limited series until FX gave it a 2 season renewal. TV Shows Watched: Bel Air: S3E1 (Peacock) with audio description, The Lady In the Lake: S1E6 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Evil: Most Recent (Paramount Plus) with audio description, 911: S6E? Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

Theoretically, there is life in a franchise like ghostbusters, as the concept is pretty basic. Four guys with varying personalities use their ghost hunting tech to save the world. But, this has been really hard to pull off. Even Ghostbusters II, featuring the original cast lacks a little bit of that magic. I actually liked the remake with the ladies, but most people don’t. Then, Ghostbusters: Afterlife had fun with blending the old and new, and riding that nostalgia train. Fine. But what do you do next? inexplicably, everyone seemed to move to the Big Apple. They were all out … Continue reading Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire

I’m hearing some good early buzz about Alien Romulus. keeping in mind, a lot of people did like the other films recently, and have really only backtracked as time has progressed. Prometheus has a 73% on Rotten Tomatoes, while Alien Covenant has a 65%. Alien Romulus currently has an 83%, which is considerably higher than the 56% of Alien Resurrection, and the 48% of Alien 3, however falls short of definitely short of alien and Aliens. So, take it for what it’s worth. TV Shows Watched: Bad Monkey: S1E1 (Apple plus) with audio description by Laura Post, Time Bandits: S1E7 … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 08/14/24

A ;pt pf these diaries are going to be brief, as the busiest parts of my year are always the first two-ish weeks of a semester, and the last two. Not really for the Summer, but more for Fall and Spring, so I’ll be consuming even less content to even write about in the first place. Abigail

I firmly believe this is one film that should be watched with you knowing as little about it as possible. The more you know, the less fun it is. It was clearly crafted that way, and the people who make trailers do not give a crap. I’ll spoil all day every day if the spoiler isn’t really a spoiler, or if the movie is god awful, or some slog that exists simply to have a twist, but Abigail is none of those things. I caught this on peacock, and without being too revealing, i thought the audio description was really … Continue reading Abigail
