The Small Screen Diaries- 02/15/24

Did you feel like you got hit on the head yesterday? That’s because Paramount Global has axed streamer Noggin, which launched as a cable channel in 199, before developing its own paid service in 2015. Nine years later, Paramount Global is on fire, and they need to cut costs. A lot of the basic core programs of Noggin are available on Paramount Plus anyway, so I’m sure this is just a redundancy they felt was needed. I was more surprised that 800 people worked for Noggin. Just to balance themselves out, they also cancelled Evil. So, something on either end … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/15/24

Looks like NBC is trying to review Suits, with a pilot order for Suits: LA. Also, Netflix made a giant announcement yesterday confirming several series will bow in 2024, including the final seasons of Sweet Tooth, Umbrella Academy, and Cobra Kai, along with new seasons of The Diplomat, Emily In Paris, That 90’s Show, The Night Agent, and Outer Banks. Waiting until 2025 for sure, are Stranger Things, Wednesday, Virgin River, and Ginny and Georgia. That last one surprised me, as it doesn’t seem like a show that takes a long time to put together, and with the relative youth … Continue reading The Small Screen Diaries- 02/01/24

Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day! I don’t think I watched anything yesterday that fits with today. Maybe I’ll try to do that on the day of, but then I’ll be mentioning it the next day. It’s like having a Newsweek subscription nowadays, when everything has already been discussed. The Critics Choice awards last night were pretty predictable. I did see one site refer to Emma Stone’s win as a “shocker”. Really? Yes, Lily won the Globe… but so did Emma. They were just finally in the same category. Interestingly, the same “journalist” had nothing to say about the “shocker” … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 01/14/24

Tonight is the special series finale for Archer, which means I’ll be waiting to see if this thing has audio description on Hulu the next day. Also, this week brings a new season of What If, as well as the new Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. 1) For All Mankind (Apple Plus) English Audio Description By: PixelLogic Narrated By: Darren Polish Status: Unknown Hell hath no fury like Ed after being fired. He’s very much going to be a thorn in Danielle’s side going forward. Also, Margo makes a tough choice to come an official traitor so she can … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/16/23

Genie

Where I Watched It: Peacock English Audio Description?: Yes Alas, we have missed out on Melissa McCarthy dancing and singing to Genie In A bottle. That time has passed. She has now already played a genie, and Richard Curtis, in his infinite wisdom, left that out. If you think that joke is bad, you haven’t seen Genie yet. I would love to go to bat for McCarthy. I actually enjoyed Superintelligence. True story. I think she was good as Úrsula in The Little Mermaid (and I was surprised by that notion). Has she chosen some dismal projects recently? yes. And … Continue reading Genie

Had no idea this was happening, but apparently Baz Luhrmann recut his film Australia and released it on Hulu as a six part limited series. What an interesting concept. First, the Snyder Cut, now a new version of Australia. 1) Beckham (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited The first episode does a good job of explaining why David Beckham is famous. If you are at least familiar with the concept of who he is, you’ll be fine. It starts pretty much at the beginning of his football career, and the first episode takes him through his meteoric rise, and … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/26/23

Did you watch any programming themed for Veteran’s Day yesterday? Or, were you like me, just catching up? 11) Hey Dude (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: no Status: Ended A cringeworthy episode where Ted is tasked with monitoring water usage, and asks his Native American friend Danny if he can do a rain dance. When Danny says he doesn’t know how, Ted says it’s easy and just does one. Later, this 80’s kids comedy does make a point of mentioning that this is offensive, but it also spends more time invested on Danny trying to figure out how to do … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/11/23

I’m getting a little tired of renewals not meaning anything anymore. Peacock has reversed its decision on a second season of Bumper In Berlin. Why even bother with renewals? Why lie to fans if your plan is to just piss them off later on by yanking the show away? It’s not like Peacock has a ton of hit original programming. 10) Desperate Housewives (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended This sprawling cast is down by one as the show opens with a character death. Not a major character. I’m not even truly certain I grasped who the character was, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/22/23

I kinda mentioned how the season finale of Doogie Kamaloha felt like a series finale with her not choosing either of the guys, and instead choosing herself. Disney Plus has cancelled the show. I think we all knew they would. It’s a shame, because they have such a hard time launching a new series that isn’t Marvel or Star Wars. Doogie joins a couple other Disney Plus shows that only get to a second season, including The Mysterious Benedict Society, The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, Diary Of A Future President, and Big Shot. Since its inception, the only two shows … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/25/23

Well, Amazon done gone and pissed me the hell off. be careful what you wish for kids, because sometimes you get TV news. Amazon, in an effort to endear themselves with their subscribers, has reversed their second season renewals on both The Peripheral and A League of Their Own. The last one was baffling, because I know it was granted a tax waiver, so it was even cheaper to produce (plus, I thought they had already started filming). Apparently, the service that put so many years between seasons of Good Omens that people assumed it was dead, is worried about … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/18/23

not that it’s necessarily relevant, but have I mentioned how much I love the song The Devil Went Down To Georgia? I guess I’ve just got Georgia On my Mind. (When there are strikes happening, apparently TV news is really non-existent) 9) Trophy Wife (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I actually like this show, and I feel bad when it ends up on the bottom, simply because I didn’t watch as many shows. I know a one-and-done like this likely will never get audio description, but this show deserved more than 1 season. Episode Grade: B 8) Justified … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/14/23
