Well, I suppose the studios weren’t ready to accept SAG’s proposal, so they sent back a counter. Honestly, these companies needing to win this AI battle is pissing me off. Stop trying to own a person’s likeness, especially without informed consent, and certainly not in perpetuity. Also, the new trailer for Echo dropped, and it’s going to be TV-MA. 9) The Gold (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited? in what should have been a movie, we slowly build to the police making their case and being able to arrest people for the heist. Episode Grade: B- 8) Strange … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/03/23

Nothing too big in the TV world. The CW confirmed what we already assumed, that this is the final season of The CW… I mean… Superman and Lois. It marks the final show to be cancelled in the once dominant DC Arrowverse that started with the Stephen Amell led series, and birthed spinoffs The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Superman and Lois, and arguably also Stargirl and Swamp Thing, though those were originally created for DC’s streaming service. The new CW seems less interested in making their own programming, and instead repurposing Canadian, British, and Australian shows. 9) … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/02/23

First off, I want to give a big shoutout to Scott Blanks, another movie lover and audio description advocate who just dropped his first review on my site for Birth/Rebirth. Make sure to check that out. 9) Billy The Kid (MGM Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Season 2 Just Started I wanted to start this show and give it a shot, but sadly, this story based on the titular outlaw is really hard to follow without audio description. I tried, and failed. The sad thing is, where The Winter King just left me cold, there’s a part of me … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/29/23

I wish I could toss out this list and fill it with all of the amazing performances of Matthew Perry that I managed to watch yesterday. Perry was such a tremendous talent, who landed too many one-and-done shows that truly deserved a second season. The best example has to be Studio 60 on The Sunset Strip, where Perry had the option to work with Aaron Sorkin as a series regular. If you have the option to watch that, please do. Also, his short-lived, but equally worthwhile Go on is available on the Roku channel. And now for a bunch of … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/28/30

The writers struck for minimums in writers rooms, and I guess The CW’s All American Homecoming and Superman and Lois had rooms above the new increased minimum, so they are firing some to reduce costs and shrinking the writers rooms. Let’s be honest, The CW is on life support in its current state. 9) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I gotta give Raylon’s dad props. When i first met Arlo in Season 1, I never expected to see him still kicking around in Season 4, but here he is. Mainly, people still want to take down Boyd, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/27/23

I was just thinking to myself the other day, when the hell is the second season of Julia coming out? It can’t be that hard of a show to shoot. Then, MAX sent me a push notification like it can read my brain, and let me know that Julia returns in November. Sarah Lancashire is brilliant, so start catching up if you’ve never seen it. 10) Praise Petey (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Unknown What actually was this about? Finally, a day with some television to discuss. Although, I feel like my bottom pick is controversial. 11) Saturday Night Live (Peacock) English Audio Description?: No Status: It’s in Season 49, Do You Really Think It Won’t Hit 50? I know he has fans. I know he’s not really from my generation. He actually was fine in Cassandro. But, I didn’t think Bad Bunny was funny. I could talk about the blindness issue of SNL not having audio description, and me using my Spanish skills from my still unfinished DuoLingo course to follow the Espanol segments, but even when Bunny … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/22/23

I almost finished a fifth show, but it will have to wait until tomorrow, so another short list for you this day. Also, Fran Drescher wrote a guest column for Deadline.com that is worth a read if you’re interested in hearing from the horses mouth about the Actor’s strike. She’s actually not exaggerating when she says their profession is at risk. The proposed AI rules from the studios, allowing them to scan and own the likeness of talent in perpetuity, could have eliminated most of SAG within just a few years. It’s sad to know that 84% of SAG makes … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/21/23

I’m not sure anything major happened in the realm of television yesterday, but I will mention that MAX is rushing The Nun 2 onto the service before Halloween. I was pretty busy, so it’s a short list today. 5) 5) Shelter (Amazon) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet Renewed These shows where adults unleash massive conspiracies where teens have to uncover and save the day is just a very odd thing we do in film and television. Best Buy announced they will no longer be selling physical media after this holiday season. That breaks my heart. I have a massive physical media collection of DVD’s and BluRay’s, and before losing my vision, I used to love to hit up Best Buy on Black Friday, run in and grab a ton of new entries to my collection for cheap. Now, I’m all worried about whether or not something has audio description, which shockingly not every disc does. 12) Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended It’s not down here because of quality, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/14/23

Friday The 13th was a very unlucky day for one show. Apple pulled the plug on The After Party after two seasons. I’m not really sure why. It always baffles me when a show I see having a strong social media presence among the people in my feed gets cancelled, because it seems so rare that they ever bother to post about shows. but, while the new season was running, I had friends who were really into it. And I can’t say that for most of Apple plus’s programming (even if I’m a fan). 12) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/13/23

So AMPTPA walked away from SAG talks all pissy, because SAG didn’t make the deal. look, the studios had a lot of way more specific deals to iron out with SAG than the WGA and DGA, and saying you offered them the same deal is impossible. Did you commit to having hairstylists on set who are able to properly style ethnic hair? Did you guarantee the safety of extras on set? Did you agree to stop trying to scan everyone and stop owning their likeness in perpetuity? I bet if these negotiations were available for regular folk to watch, AMPTPA … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/11/23

Where I Watched it: Apple Plus English Audio Description?: Yes I would like to first state that John Carney clearly is beating us over the head with the power of music. I’d love to see him direct an honest to God musical, in the most truest sense instead of these films about musicians playing music that matters. I really wonder if his love of music could resonate in a musical adaptation of something headed to the big screen. Perhaps Spring Awakening would be up his alley? Flora and Son is my least favorite John Carney film, but for the guy … Continue reading Flora and Son

Your TV news for the day is that the upcoming 3rd season of Vikings: Valhalla will be its last. 11) The Continental (Peacock) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited Thank God this is behind me. I was so over this show. Mel Gibson really gave his all to an unredeemable villain, but as far as the rest goes, this feels nothing like the franchise from which it was adapted. it has so much dialogue, it almost feels like a more violent TV adaptation of oceans 11. I don’t know how I missed the drama, but Starz apparently cancelled Heels, and almost immediately removed the show from its service. There was a notable campaign on Twitter to shame Starz for cancelling the series. honestly, with Outlander in its final season, if they don’t start figuring out their programming, they’ll be the Power network, and it’ll be hard to get people attracted to new shows who aren’t watching Power spinoffs. 11) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended People get shot at in this episode, and it’s tough to figure out who and when, since there’s no … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/06/23
