The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/05/23

Did you remember, remember the 5th of November? Maybe? No? Well, lawmen launched yesterday on Paramount Plus, becoming the 3rd technical spinoff from Yellowstone, and another notch on Taylor Sheridan’s belt. 4) Shining Veil (Starz) English Audio Description?: No Status: Unknown I did try and make it through season 1, and it was a challenge. This is like a horror comedy, and there are a lot of elements you miss. But the performances from Courtney Cox and Greg Kinnear are just so damn good. I miss most of the references, but sometimes they just launch into a tirade, or the … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/05/23

You Hurt My Feelings

Where I Watched it: iTunes English Audio Description By Deluxe Narrated By Laura Post I went into this with way too much hype. I think that was the problem. the reviews were solid, I’m a big fan of Nicole Holofcener, and I was excited to see her reteam with her Enough said lead Julia Louis-Dreyfus, as well as intrigued by the A24 label. hell, I’ve even come to really enjoy Tobias Menzies, and I was excited to see how he would be used here. Honestly? It’s the only thing I think holofcener has written or directed that hasn’t worked for … Continue reading You Hurt My Feelings

Frankenweenie

Where I Watched It: Disney Plus English Audio Description?: Yes I have these very patchy memories from my childhood of having seen Tim Burton’s original short film on VHS. I can even remember the library where we rented it, and a little of what the library looked like, as well as some of the film. As a child, you don’t think of things like “I’m watching a Tim Burton film”, so it wasn’t until years later when I was able to piece this experience together. I’m not really sure why Burton decided to remake and expand on his idea, but … Continue reading Frankenweenie

The Machine

Where I Watched It: Netflix English Audio Description: Yes Movie review speed round. The Machine is a film based on a stand up routine by Burt Crysher, where he discusses a trip to Russia, and how he got involved with the Russian mob and earned the nickname The Machine. Obviously, he plays a version of himself, who in the longer version of this joke has revenge sought against him for being The machine. It’s two hours long. His joke is fine as a stand-up routine, which is why he’s here, but take any joke and try and make an entire … Continue reading The Machine

The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/4/23

So, we are back to the studios saying they have submitted their “last, best, and final offer” to SAG. Just the fact that the studios are saying that makes me question its validity. Just saying. 5) Dreaming Whilst Black (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet renewed i didn’t even know there was a pregnant character on the show. This whole thing was about a birth. And I was so surprised by it. Episode Grade: B 4) Praise Petey (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Not Yet renewed The Cult is still poor, so they start throwing barn … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/4/23

As Above So Below

English Audio Description?: Yes Rapidly catching up on my insanity to try and review 62 movies in October, I have completely forgotten where I watched this, and apparently have no notes. I think I thought i would remember, and i think it was Freevee, but I’m not confident enough to say that. So, this found footage horror film has an audio description track, because I’ve heard it. And, once again, thanks to The Blair Witch Project for this genre being done to death in horror films. This does have the distinguished charm of being actually shot in the catacombs. Maybe … Continue reading As Above So Below

The Burial

Where I Watched it: Amazon English Audio Description? Yes Jamie Foxx has had a year. luckily for him, he seems to be coming out the other side, and he’s doing so with a strong performance in what should be Oscar bait. Oddly enough, it was his performance in They Cloned Tyrone that recently earned him a Gotham nomination, not the burial, adding to my idea that no one has watched this movie. Based on the true story of a small funeral home operator (Tommy Lee Jones), who gets the run around from a corporation looking to buy out funeral homes … Continue reading The Burial

The Babadook

English Audio Description?: Yes Still catching up on old Halloween titles, and I finally watched The Babadook. Now, I can understand the hype to some extent. it wasn’t the scariest thing I’d ever seen, but it had a lot going for it. Basically, this Australian horror film centers around a mom, who is still recovering from some grief, and her son, and how the world doesn’t want her son. Honestly, that’s the one thing this film did the best. We all love our kids, but even this guy is a bit much. The direction here was so much to make … Continue reading The Babadook

The Caine Mutiny Court Marshal

Where I Watched it: Paramount Plus English Audio Description Provided By: Roundabout Narrated By: Elias Recently, we lost director William Friedkin, who had already earned his place among the best directors of all time. He’s been in that group since his 1971 Best Picture winner The French Connection, which he followed up with the horror classic The Exorcist. Honestly, he could have just stopped there. He probably should have. Though his career does include some fondly remembered films like To Live and Die in LA, it also features the Al Pacino flop Crusin, the David Caruso forgotten erotic thriller Jade, … Continue reading The Caine Mutiny Court Marshal

The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/03/23

Well, I suppose the studios weren’t ready to accept SAG’s proposal, so they sent back a counter. Honestly, these companies needing to win this AI battle is pissing me off. Stop trying to own a person’s likeness, especially without informed consent, and certainly not in perpetuity. Also, the new trailer for Echo dropped, and it’s going to be TV-MA. 9) The Gold (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited? in what should have been a movie, we slowly build to the police making their case and being able to arrest people for the heist. Episode Grade: B- 8) Strange … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/03/23

The Cloverfield Paradox

Where I Watched it: Netflix English Audio Description?: Yes I finally took this Halloween season to round out the Cloverfield franchise by finally checking out this much derided entry. it deserves a lot of the hate being thrown its way, as it feels like a film that was made, and then given a Cloverfield spin.It barely takes advantage of the world created by Cloverfield, and spends its time in space with a rather impressive cast doing unimpressive things. It’s one of those “am I losing my mind?” Films, and deals with parallel dimensions and stuff, but nothing that would lead … Continue reading The Cloverfield Paradox

The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/02/23

Nothing too big in the TV world. The CW confirmed what we already assumed, that this is the final season of The CW… I mean… Superman and Lois. It marks the final show to be cancelled in the once dominant DC Arrowverse that started with the Stephen Amell led series, and birthed spinoffs The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Superman and Lois, and arguably also Stargirl and Swamp Thing, though those were originally created for DC’s streaming service. The new CW seems less interested in making their own programming, and instead repurposing Canadian, British, and Australian shows. 9) … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/02/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/01/23

The fact that I’m hearing that the SAG AMPTA negotiations are being held up over AI really tells me all I need to know about the studios positions. I do hope SAG does not waiver on their counter to many of the terrible ideas these studios were proposing, including owning an actors likeness in perpetuity, simply because they showed up as an extra for one day. People say that AI is the future, and there’s nothing we can do to stop it. If we don’t regulate it now, that same person is going to have their face regenerated into a … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/01/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/29/23

First off, I want to give a big shoutout to Scott Blanks, another movie lover and audio description advocate who just dropped his first review on my site for Birth/Rebirth. Make sure to check that out. 9) Billy The Kid (MGM Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Season 2 Just Started I wanted to start this show and give it a shot, but sadly, this story based on the titular outlaw is really hard to follow without audio description. I tried, and failed. The sad thing is, where The Winter King just left me cold, there’s a part of me … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/29/23

Friday The 13th (2009)

Where I Watched it: MAX English Audio Description?: Yes Before we even talk about this, we need to have a talk, just me and the peeps at wBD. hi. it’s me. The guy who consistently calls out streamers for nonsensical decisions when it comes to streaming and audio description. Can someone on your end explain to me why you selectively choose to provide audio description for sequels but not the first film? MAX has three of the original Friday The 13th films described, but not the original, and there’s a gap. Serious question, is this how you watch movies? Do … Continue reading Friday The 13th (2009)
