Ghostlight

My pull quote: “before the Oscar onslaught, Ghostlight might be the best film of 2024, and certainly is the best you haven’t seen.” This little indie that should was just a random choice for me because it was in the Apple Store, and it had audio description. Never doubt the power of audio description, because the word on this film has been rather soft. I discovered, and fell in love with Ghostlight, which proves to be a thoughtful examination of art and tragedy, juxtaposing the grief of a family against the Shakesperian depth of Romeo and Juliet. in theatre, a … Continue reading Ghostlight

Arcadian

Nicolas Cage claims he’s close to retirement, so as his career supposedly winds down, I would really like him to go out on a high note. that means no more random shit like The old Way and The retirement Plan. So, the question here is Arcadian worthy of being one of Nicolas Cage’s final films? Well, that depends on how you look at it. He isn’t really the star of the film. That’s not meant to be a spoiler, it’s just how the movie is really structured. We are in a dystopian future where a lot of humans are now dead, … Continue reading Arcadian

Late Night With The Devil

One of the buzziest horror titles of the year, the indie Late night With The Devil does a lot with very little.A lot of this has to do with casting David Dastmalchian in the lead role of Jack. Dastmalchian has spent years popping up in character actor roles, even really bit parts, but with such a recognizable face. he’s developed a recognition for his work, even if the work is small, or brief, and known for having range. Never has he really been asked to play this type of role, or be the lead actor of the film. Absolutely the … Continue reading Late Night With The Devil

Ferrari

Michael Mann deserves more love than he’s gotten in his career. I think people forget he directed Heat, and somehow assume based on the casting it was Martin Scorsese, but it isn’t. He also did excellent work with The insider, and I even enjoyed his little seen Black Hat. Ferrari isn’t Heat, it isn’t perfect, but it also walked away with zero Oscar nominations. Did it deserve that fate? For my blind fans, you can watch this film on demand right now. It’s from Neon, which had been sending their films to Hulu. The existence of audio description isn’t super consistent … Continue reading Ferrari
