Titanic: The Musical

Sometimes, the barrage of new movies on other streaming services means I don’t get to use my Broadway HD subscription as much as possible, but every once in a while, I still check something out. This Tony winning musical from the 90’s has never really been a personal favorite. i decided to tackle it, because obviously titanic would have some visual elements, and broadway HD is 99% non-audio described. In an effort to get them to consider expanding their selection, I still talk about these titles. I ended up enjoying the musical more than I thought I would, sitting down … Continue reading Titanic: The Musical

The Prince Of Egypt: The Musical

I do like to review something occasionally from Broadway HD, hoping that they eventually prioritize accessibility. I’m not targeting just them. I review stuff from Starz, CrunchyRoll, AMC Plus, and plenty of stuff on other streamers that doesn’t have a track made available to us. But, Broadway HD happens to be showing live theatre, which has actually come a long way in providing live audio description. So, figure it out. Yes, there’s a live stage adaptation of the Dreamworks Animation, which seems like a long time coming. it has been workshopped before. A few years back, it almost got off … Continue reading The Prince Of Egypt: The Musical

John and Jen

Where I Watched it: Broadway HD English Audio Description?: No It has been a minute since I have reviewed something from Broadway HD, and this is a belated review of John and Jen, which I assume is still on the service, though I did not watch this in December. This musical is written originally by Andrew Lippa, who would go on to work on musicals like The Addams Family, but this revival is specifically getting punched up by Jason Robert Brown. So, it’s a little bit different, and you can feel Brown’s touch in the score. Of the musicals you … Continue reading John and Jen

Kiss Me Kate

Where I Watched It: Broadway HD English Audio Description?: No Thanks for continuing to indulge me on reviewing the lack of accessibility on Broadway HD. Tackling kiss Me Kate was a surprisingly dull experience. I wasn’t expecting it. I’m familiar with the songs, however I’ve never sat through an entire show before. I’ve heard numbers performed in cabarets and recitals, yet this production is so disappointing. I realized as a show, it’s rather easy to put together. It’s a show within a show. So, you ahve the actors and production team busting out with Another Opening Another Show, and then … Continue reading Kiss Me Kate

First Date

Where I Watched it: Broadway HD English Audio Description?: No So this is not what I thought it would be. It is the musical first Date, but Broadway HD is running a pandemic version shot from the homes of actors as a project worthy of being alongside the rest of their content. I absolutely will not be critiquing what people were trying to do to either raise money during the pandemic, or simply pay rent, at a time when theatres were closed. It’s not a fair comparison. What I will talk about is how the lack of audio description affects … Continue reading First Date

Falsettos

Where I Watched It: Broadway HD English Audio Description?: No once again, I’m still covering Broadway HD. This airing of Falsettos was part of the live At Lincoln center series, and featured Christian Borle in the lead role. I’m a fan of the original show, and really all of the various forms this productions has been under, like March of The Falsettos or falsettoland, as composer William Finn has tried to tell this story through song a couple of times. This is also a revival cast, of course, just in case you are not familiar with the show. Marvin (Borle) … Continue reading Falsettos

Allegiance

Where I Watched it: Broadway HD English Audio Description?: No Once again, another title by Broadway HD that lacks audio description. However, I’m not here to continue to pound that point home today, though it is so important. As i watched Oppenheimer, it had me thinking about so many things that we may or may not have done correctly, and some really effective stories told from this time period. As much as I’d love to review Grave of The Fireflies, I would love to do that with audio description, plus it’s not on any of the multitude of services I subscribe … Continue reading Allegiance

42nd Street

Where I Watched It: Broadway HD English Audio Description?: no I actually reached out to Broadway HD and never heard back about their audio description. So, I guess the only way to keep pushing for it is to continue to talk about the content and why it needs it. 42nd Street is a great show to do that with. Even though I was somewhat familiar with the show and many of the songs, this was my first time with any sort of start to finish production. So I was excited to see what was in store, and like some other … Continue reading 42nd Street

The Toxic Avenger: The Musical

Where I Watched It: Broadway HD English Audio Description?: No Continuing to discuss the other streamers has led me to the legend…. The legend of the Toxic Avenger! In my free time, when I’m not reviewing films and yelling at the wind about audio description and accessibility, I work in live theatre. So, I’m a fan of shows like this. It’s not a big Broadway smash, but it has its fans along the lines of Evil Dead: The Musical. It also has a female lead character that is blind! So if there was ever a musical to take that plunge … Continue reading The Toxic Avenger: The Musical
