Not surprising at all, but CBS will continue to air its Australian import, NCIS: Sydney for its second season, despite already having two NCIS shows, and currently in development on two more. Fun fact, this entire franchise only exists thanks to a series being rescued from cancellation. Possibly the smartest “save our show” ever has turned out to be CBS picking up JAG after it was cancelled at NBC after one season. Well, in TV news, John Oliver inked a 3 year renewal for Last Week Tonight with HBO. The Traitors: UK is nearing a premiere date. Someone marvelous won Dancing With The Stars. The Critics Choice nominations were so interesting for the TV nominees this year. Ramon Rodriguez slid in for Will Trent over more obvious performers like Brian Cox for Succession. SAG-AFTRA is now in the negotiation phase. My great hope for them is that they shut the AI shit down entirely. HBO wasted zero time in cancelling Winning Time at the same time (I’m saying time a lot this time aren’t I?) as the season finale, which is now a series finale. Here’s the thing I don’t get. The Drew Barrymore show is being picketed, because Drew decided to go back to work, but Whoopi is on the View, and obviously a member of SAG since she’s still acting. So, why is Whoopi allowed to work on a talk show but Drew is not? Warner TV suspended it’s TV deals with a lot of the major showrunners they had deals with. This strike is just one big power play for the studios. Well, the WGA didn’t end up going back to the table after all. So the strike is still on. i truly believe these studios refuse to budge on AI, and the guilds can’t afford to, because they understand once they allow it in the door contractually it will start putting people out of work. I so rarely get TV news. Two stories in one day! First, Deadline has reported that the Emmy Awards are moving from September to an undetermined date in January. This means while other shows will likely be rewarding the current seasons of shows like The Bear and Only Murders in The Building, the Emmys are still rewarding the past earlier seasons. We have some news finally out of comic con. In The Walking Dead Universe, The Walking Dead: Dead City and Daryl Dixon both have gotten second season pickups. Meanwhile, Amazon was able to run a promo for the upcoming second season of Invincible, and Peacock showed off the upcoming John Wick spinoff The Continental, which was originally being developed at Starz.
