The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/11/23

Did you watch any programming themed for Veteran’s Day yesterday? Or, were you like me, just catching up? 11) Hey Dude (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: no Status: Ended A cringeworthy episode where Ted is tasked with monitoring water usage, and asks his Native American friend Danny if he can do a rain dance. When Danny says he doesn’t know how, Ted says it’s easy and just does one. Later, this 80’s kids comedy does make a point of mentioning that this is offensive, but it also spends more time invested on Danny trying to figure out how to do … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/11/23

The Marvels box office is not just reflective of Marvel fatigue, but also the impact of the strike. Two of the films lead characters are being played by rising stars from Disney plus shows, and were unable to promote the film. Disney should have pushed this back, and now they have their lowest opening ever. 9) Name That Tune (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Unknown honestly, just the most underwhelming episode. Jeff Ross knew all the songs until he got to the final, and then Tig knew all the songs, yet somehow Nicole ended up in the finale. Baffling. … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/10/23

11) Seaquest DSV (Peacock) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I think I’ve given a few episodes a pass, as it is a bit easier being on a rewatch. but this episode focused quite a bit on a ghost ship, a diary, and possession? I’ll admit, when you throw ghosts and what I can assume was possession in the mix, it goes a little past being easy to just follow along. Episode Grade: unwatchable 10) 911 (Hulu) English Audio Description?: no Status: Moving To ABC Athena is on the hunt for who killed a neighbor that everyone hated, while her … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/07/23 Dancing last night. While it does seem like SAG is taking this latest offer seriously, they do have some things to iron out, and they’re planning another meeting. Meanwhile, it took until November for Hulu to renew The Bear. Why? Are they that hard up? The series is projected to win Emmy’s this year for the streamer. They literally can’t afford to lose the show, not with Handmaid’s Tale going into its final season. Their only other prestige show would be Only Murders In The Building. 10) How To Become A Cult Leader (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited In the fifth … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/06/23

Frankenweenie

Where I Watched It: Disney Plus English Audio Description?: Yes I have these very patchy memories from my childhood of having seen Tim Burton’s original short film on VHS. I can even remember the library where we rented it, and a little of what the library looked like, as well as some of the film. As a child, you don’t think of things like “I’m watching a Tim Burton film”, so it wasn’t until years later when I was able to piece this experience together. I’m not really sure why Burton decided to remake and expand on his idea, but … Continue reading Frankenweenie

So, we are back to the studios saying they have submitted their “last, best, and final offer” to SAG. Just the fact that the studios are saying that makes me question its validity. Just saying. 5) Dreaming Whilst Black (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet renewed i didn’t even know there was a pregnant character on the show. This whole thing was about a birth. And I was so surprised by it. Episode Grade: B 4) Praise Petey (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Not Yet renewed The Cult is still poor, so they start throwing barn … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/4/23

Well, I suppose the studios weren’t ready to accept SAG’s proposal, so they sent back a counter. Honestly, these companies needing to win this AI battle is pissing me off. Stop trying to own a person’s likeness, especially without informed consent, and certainly not in perpetuity. Also, the new trailer for Echo dropped, and it’s going to be TV-MA. 9) The Gold (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited? in what should have been a movie, we slowly build to the police making their case and being able to arrest people for the heist. Episode Grade: B- 8) Strange … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/03/23

The fact that I’m hearing that the SAG AMPTA negotiations are being held up over AI really tells me all I need to know about the studios positions. I do hope SAG does not waiver on their counter to many of the terrible ideas these studios were proposing, including owning an actors likeness in perpetuity, simply because they showed up as an extra for one day. People say that AI is the future, and there’s nothing we can do to stop it. If we don’t regulate it now, that same person is going to have their face regenerated into a … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/01/23

Haunted Mansion

Where I Watched It: Disney plus English Audio Description?: Yes I did approach the concept of yet another Hanuted Mansion film with trepidation. A lot of that was alleviated by the fact that Justin Simian would be behind the director’s chair. Not only was I a fan of the film Dear White People, but I also enjoyed the Netflix show inspired by it. I wasn’t sure how his satirical tone would mix with a Disney franchise, but I was mostly pleasantly surprised. This version of the haunted Mansion seems like it is trying to be a little scarier, with a … Continue reading Haunted Mansion

I wish I could toss out this list and fill it with all of the amazing performances of Matthew Perry that I managed to watch yesterday. Perry was such a tremendous talent, who landed too many one-and-done shows that truly deserved a second season. The best example has to be Studio 60 on The Sunset Strip, where Perry had the option to work with Aaron Sorkin as a series regular. If you have the option to watch that, please do. Also, his short-lived, but equally worthwhile Go on is available on the Roku channel. And now for a bunch of … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/28/30

The Haunted Mansion (2003)

Where I Watched It: Disney plus English Audio Description provided By: Deluxe Narrated By: Alexander Graham Justin Simian has a remake/reboot that will be the next thing i review, but I decided to give this Eddie Murphy version a second chance. it wasn’t as bad as I remembered it, and it probably never was. Honestly, Murphy had this period where he didn’t seem to be reading the scripts, and directors just let him do his thing, and that is all over this movie. There’s also a weird subplot that involves why his family is drawn to the mansion in the … Continue reading The Haunted Mansion (2003)

The writers struck for minimums in writers rooms, and I guess The CW’s All American Homecoming and Superman and Lois had rooms above the new increased minimum, so they are firing some to reduce costs and shrinking the writers rooms. Let’s be honest, The CW is on life support in its current state. 9) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I gotta give Raylon’s dad props. I do believe as I’m writing this, that the Maine mass shooter is still at large. A tremendous tragedy we seem unable and unwilling to stop, or even attempt to reduce the possibility of recurrence. Yesterday, Paramount Plus did cancel two shows, Rabbit Hole and Fatal Attraction, neither surprised me. 9) SeaQuest DSV (Peacock) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I tend to normally give this show a grade. Conceptually, I understand it from watching it as a kid. I was just thinking to myself the other day, when the hell is the second season of Julia coming out? It can’t be that hard of a show to shoot. Then, MAX sent me a push notification like it can read my brain, and let me know that Julia returns in November. Sarah Lancashire is brilliant, so start catching up if you’ve never seen it. 10) Praise Petey (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Unknown What actually was this about? Finally, a day with some television to discuss. Although, I feel like my bottom pick is controversial. 11) Saturday Night Live (Peacock) English Audio Description?: No Status: It’s in Season 49, Do You Really Think It Won’t Hit 50? I know he has fans. I know he’s not really from my generation. He actually was fine in Cassandro. But, I didn’t think Bad Bunny was funny. I could talk about the blindness issue of SNL not having audio description, and me using my Spanish skills from my still unfinished DuoLingo course to follow the Espanol segments, but even when Bunny … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/22/23
