The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/02/23

I did not get to watch as much yesterday, as I spent a while on the phone with Hulu trying to figure out why my Continue Watching/My Stuff disappeared. It’s a known issue, and they can’t help you. My shows do not know where I am, and I really can’t remember, and it’s not storing the information. Don’t expect a lot of Hulu reviews from me until this is fixed. Though, there is one Hulu show on my list today. 9) Mad Men (AMC Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended i realized what happened, I think, though i still … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/02/23

It’s a slow news day, but you know how all the streaming services have these random films that didn’t do well at the box office, or were even theatrically released, and were made years ago? I wonder why we can’t have a streamer that does that just for TV shows? Think of how many shows you’ve seen over the years that had short runs, or perhaps aired years ago, and currently don’t appear on a streaming service, but it would be fun to revisit those shows. if I can revisit a crappy 90’s flop, I should be able to revisit … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/30/23

I so rarely get TV news. Two stories in one day! First, Deadline has reported that the Emmy Awards are moving from September to an undetermined date in January. This means while other shows will likely be rewarding the current seasons of shows like The Bear and Only Murders in The Building, the Emmys are still rewarding the past earlier seasons. Also, HBo has renewed The Righteous Gemstones! 11) Dinosaurs (Disney plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended Robbie likes a girl and takes dating advice from his dad, and some new kid Spike, who sounds like he’s being voiced … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/27/23

It’s funny how that last episode of Silo that I reviewed yesterday felt so much like a Season Finale, and so many streaming shows cap at 8, I just thought that was the finale. Apparently not. Hah. Damn, that will be hard to top. In other TV news, I’m still supporting the actors and writers for striking to not be replaced by AI. If they don’t do it now, they won’t be working later anyway. Although, the studios current proposal on scanning background talent to use their likeness in perpetuity really makes me wonder who would go be a background … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/18/23

It’s amazing how many people out there have no problem consuming the work of the SAG and WGA but are complaining now because they think actors are little babies. While streaming residuals are a factor, since syndication and linear viewing are down, it is not the only factor. The use of AI technology is a key factor in both guilds. The writers do not want AI to be a credited screenwriter taking over their job, nor do the SAG want AI images of them used in perpetuity. The major studios and networks want to do things like scan crowd scenes … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/14/23

Emmy Nominations are being announced at 11:30EST this morning. may the odds be ever in your shows favor. Unless your show is Yellowstone. In which case, you’ll need much more than a Hunger Games quote for a show the Emmy voters continuously ignore. 11) American Born Chinese (Disney plus) English Audio Description: Yes Status: Not Yet Renewed Perhaps this should have been the pilot. It goes much deeper into the other realm of Monkey business this show hints at. it’s such a weird show. As yesterday was July 4th, you can probably guess that there wasn’t any big TV news. Biggest thing was that Daniel Radcliffe said he has no plans to appear in the Harry Potter TV series. I wouldn’t be too worried about that response. He is on miracle Workers, so he is comfortable doing TV. If the show is good, I’m sure he’d join it. 12) Dinosaurs (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended Robbie is left to babysit the baby. Hilarity ensues. Episode Grade: B- 11) Family Matters (MAX) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Ended Urkel appearance. But, Laura … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/04/23

After The Other Two dropped their big bomb yesterday, Reservation Dogs followed them with the exact same announcement, that the 3rd season will be it’s last. I remember when most shows wanted to hit season 4 because it put syndication into play, but with shows no longer running 22 episode seasons, there’s no need for that. Reservation Dogs would need nine seasons to get to that point. Also, ABC is sticking with Home Economics a little bit longer. A huge show of good faith, the network has extended the contracts for the cast while waiting decision on a renewal. I … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/29/23

Paramount Plus is purging again. This time, I won’t be burned by saying everything has already been removed. The biggest cancellation/removal is Inside Amy Schumer. The rest are some documentaries, Paramount Plus original movies (Snow Day and Fantasy Football), and a bunch of Nickelodeon shows, only two of which I had even heard of. No 90’s content except Allegra’s Window sounded familiar. 10) Family Matters (MAX) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Ended Nothing really was wrong here, except Laura sold the wrong quilt, and had to get it back. It was very dramatic. Episode Grade: B 9) 911 (Hulu) English … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/26/23

A couple of things. First, I have not properly given a shoutout to Tubi, which is now offering a select number of titles with audio description. This is their first month, and they already have surpassed AMC Plus. Hah. I do plan on watching something from them soonish to support their new offerings, and give a review on how easy it is to access it. You can find a list of titles where you can find all the lists of titles for all the streaming services. I’m not sure there’s a ton of TV news, aside from the fact that the DGA signed a new contract, leaving the WGA and SAG as being the two still left. But, I did watch a ton of pilot episodes yesterday. 16) Clone high (MAX) English Audio Description?: No Status: Revived Still trying to get through the original Clone High. I think I finally am hearing Will forte’s voice. This episode dealt with getting a diagnoses of ADD. Maybe this would be funnier with audio description. Top Gun Maverick

Where I Watched it: Paramount Plus English Audio Description Available?: Yes Legacy sequels are all the rage now. Nostalgia is a business by itself, convincing people to continue to buy into a franchise they once loved, with mixed results. When the world found out that Tom Cruise was moving forward on the long awaited Top Gun sequel, it just felt like more of the same. like it was Jamie lee Curtis returning to Halloween, Neve Campbell returning to Scream, or the Sanderson Sisters casting spells again for hocus Pocus. It’s still a trend that is carrying on into 2023 as … Continue reading Top Gun Maverick

Where I Watched It: Paramount Plus with Showtime English Audio Description Available?: No Just to be clear, I realize that just yesterday I refused to review Weird, but those were different circumstances. Instead of writing another tirade about how I won’t review a film when someone refuses to add audio description, I’ll say up front that this lack of audio description presented a different problem we blind folk encounter. What happens when you are about to watch a movie with other people, and the movie they want to watch doesn’t have audio description? That’s why I push for 100%, because … Continue reading Confess Fletch
