The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/24/23

I was just thinking to myself the other day, when the hell is the second season of Julia coming out? It can’t be that hard of a show to shoot. Then, MAX sent me a push notification like it can read my brain, and let me know that Julia returns in November. Sarah Lancashire is brilliant, so start catching up if you’ve never seen it. 10) Praise Petey (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Unknown What actually was this about? I remember there was a guy from New York, and he used to be a part of the cult but … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/24/23

Well, that was a lot faster the next time around. Amazon has picked up Good Omens for a third season, so hopefully the wait between Season 2 and 3 will be much less. 8) Krapopolis (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Unknown I still wish this show had audio description, but this silly plot about dead goats was funny enough. I didn’t realize until this episode that Matt Barry was voicing a monster, because all i hear is Lazlo. Episode Grade: B 7) Heartstopper (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Renewed? Some of the side characters had some plots, like … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/23/23

Pet Sematary 2 (1992)

Where I Watched It: MAX English Audio Description?: Yes Guess who’s back? Back again. Mary Lambert is back. Kill your pets. Granted, in 1989, Rotten Tomatoes, Letterboxed, and IMDB didn’t exist. There was no real way for you to find out what your critics thought about a movie except what film studios used in their ads, or to read a newspaper or magazine. Aggregating would be next to impossible to do, but still, the studio kept Lambert on for the sequel. They did jettison Stephen King, because he never wrote a book called Pet Sematary 2. So, the same people … Continue reading Pet Sematary 2 (1992)

Pet Sematary (1989)

Where I Watched It: MAX English Audio Description?: Yes As we all know, every Stephen king book-to-film adaptation has been truly flawless. All are classics. Ride The bullet is probably the best of them all. This was my first time watching Pet Sematary in its totality, though I feel like I definitely did the thing we do as kids when the cable edit of a film like this shows up, and we watch a few minutes of something so we can say we saw it. Fake bravery. Honestly? It’s not really that scary, unless you are afraid of poor directorial … Continue reading Pet Sematary (1989)

The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/21/23

I almost finished a fifth show, but it will have to wait until tomorrow, so another short list for you this day. Also, Fran Drescher wrote a guest column for Deadline.com that is worth a read if you’re interested in hearing from the horses mouth about the Actor’s strike. She’s actually not exaggerating when she says their profession is at risk. The proposed AI rules from the studios, allowing them to scan and own the likeness of talent in perpetuity, could have eliminated most of SAG within just a few years. It’s sad to know that 84% of SAG makes … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/21/23

I’m not sure anything major happened in the realm of television yesterday, but I will mention that MAX is rushing The Nun 2 onto the service before Halloween. I was pretty busy, so it’s a short list today. 5) 5) Shelter (Amazon) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet Renewed These shows where adults unleash massive conspiracies where teens have to uncover and save the day is just a very odd thing we do in film and television. This show is a lot for these kids. I honestly found more enjoyment in the Phantom auditions, although I call shenanigans. The … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/20/23

Yesterday was a mother of a whirlwind. First, i did my happy dance when i saw that Amazon officially renewed Gen-V for a second season. Then, our world crashed down, as the absolutely brilliant The Problem With jon Stewart was cancelled at Apple Plus over “creative differences”. What? Maybe I should cancel Apple Plus and tel them it’s over creative differences. “I’ve decided to go another way.” Someone else had better pick up Jon Stewart ASAP. 8) 8) Dreaming Whilst Black (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Unknown In the second episode, the laughs come mostly from culturally significant … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/19/23

Dancing With The Stars certainly took the magic of Disney night to max corporate synergy. Meanwhile, some top Hollywood talent are meeting with the SAG negotiations to see what’s up. Oh, I don’t know… the studios don’t want to negotiate? 12) World On Fire (PBS) English Audio Description?: No Status: Unknown I assumed this was a limited series the first time around, but PBS brought it back apparently without Helen hunt, and far more conversations not in English. This is a war drama with a lot of subtitles I can’t read, so much like AMC Plus’s Daryl Dixon, it is … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/17/23

Disney Plus is developing Gargoyles into a live action series. So, if you were a fan of Gargoyles in the 90’s, this was the best or worst news you heard all day. 7) Krapopolis (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Unknown I will concede that this episode was the funniest so far, with a lot of random jokes strung together nonsensically. We had a tribute to Prometheus, the rite of passage to go beat up your deadbeat Cyclops father, and a joke about giving squirrels the wheel instead of humans. I have no idea what this show wants to be … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/16/23

I haven’t watched it yet, but the new Rick and Morty voice cast premiered last night. Also, I truthfully decided to start watching Step By Step after noticing it on FreeVee, and a few hours later I saw Suzanne Somers died. I’m very weirded out about how that worked out. 9) 9) Fright Crew (Hulu) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Unknown Eli Roth produced this 10 episode animated show aimed at… I’m not really sure. Eli clearly wants to go hard, so there are some things and themes here that feel targeted for maybe middle school to high school aged … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/15/23

Best Buy announced they will no longer be selling physical media after this holiday season. That breaks my heart. I have a massive physical media collection of DVD’s and BluRay’s, and before losing my vision, I used to love to hit up Best Buy on Black Friday, run in and grab a ton of new entries to my collection for cheap. Now, I’m all worried about whether or not something has audio description, which shockingly not every disc does. 12) Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended It’s not down here because of quality, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/14/23

Friday The 13th was a very unlucky day for one show. Apple pulled the plug on The After Party after two seasons. I’m not really sure why. It always baffles me when a show I see having a strong social media presence among the people in my feed gets cancelled, because it seems so rare that they ever bother to post about shows. but, while the new season was running, I had friends who were really into it. And I can’t say that for most of Apple plus’s programming (even if I’m a fan). 12) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/13/23

Meg 2: The Trench

Where I Watched it: MAX English Audio Description provided By: Deluxe Narrated By: Darren Rivets and Julia Smith We have learned nothing from the Jaws sequels. Don’t overthink the plot. And for some reason, this script feels like it was written by ten different people all very high on various drugs, who were given 24 hours to write the script for this film. I am all about bucking the trend against establishment critics and film snobs, but meg 2 is subjectively terrible. The first film was entertaining enough. Giant sharks with no predators escape their underground domain, and create a … Continue reading Meg 2: The Trench

Two big new shows dropped yesterday. Also, Hulu, which just brought back moonlighting, announced the return of LA Law in November (not the remake). And there was news of Halloween being purchased for TV rights and a cinematic universe. So look for a Michael Myers TV show as well as I guess an Avengers style Myers universe? 10) The Ren and Stimpy Show (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended While I am still enjoying a little taste of nostalgia, this series very much relies on sight gags and really needs audio description. It also has some perfect gags, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/12/23

So AMPTPA walked away from SAG talks all pissy, because SAG didn’t make the deal. look, the studios had a lot of way more specific deals to iron out with SAG than the WGA and DGA, and saying you offered them the same deal is impossible. Did you commit to having hairstylists on set who are able to properly style ethnic hair? Did you guarantee the safety of extras on set? Did you agree to stop trying to scan everyone and stop owning their likeness in perpetuity? I bet if these negotiations were available for regular folk to watch, AMPTPA … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/11/23
