The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/19/23

Yesterday, we lost a former First Lady with Roslyn Carter, who made it to 96. We also lost an actor I had forgotten could still be alive, Joss Ackland, who made for a mean villain in in the Lethal Weapon franchise, but also appeared in 90’s Disney films including A Kid In King Arthur’s Court and the Mighty Ducks films. He looked so old even then, that I never would have imagined he made it to 2023. RIP to both. 1) Get Gotti (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited A docuseries chronicling how they finally nailed mafia boss John … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/19/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/18/23

I guess there has been movement on the Big Little Lies front. Kidman just finished shooting a series for Netflix, Reese Witherspoon should be between seasons of The Morning Show, and I assume the rest of the cast is available. 1) The Fall Of The House Of Usher (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited Series I went seven episodes warning Flanagan that if he did what I was aware could happen, that we would not be on good terms. he made his choice, so i make mine. That is the LEAST spoilery way I can offer you a recap … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/18/23

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse

Where I Watched it: iTunes (it’s also on Netflix) English Audio Description Provided By The Media Access Group Narrated By Inger Tudor. What seems like a lifetime ago, I did go to the theatres to watch the first Miles Morales entry. I was pleasantly surprised. Then, they made a sequel, and I had the displeasure of watching it after everyone went absolutely nuts over this. It’s not that it’s bad, but the internet can really oversell a film. That’s not to say the movie is bad, it’s just as good as the first one. Now that we know about multiverses … Continue reading Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse

Cargo

Where I Watched it: Netflix English Audio Description?: Yes Description Provided By?: This was released when Netflix didn’t understand the value of crediting the audio description team. Meanwhile, in the actual credits to the film, we get everyone from drivers, caterers, and personal assistants, because studios recognize everyone. This highlights a major problem our industry isn’t ready to discuss. Don’t watch this film. Are you a fan of Martin Freeman? Did you not know this film existed until just now? Good. Pretend it doesn’t, and then just don’t watch it. Cargo was one film that I just never watched until … Continue reading Cargo

It it looking like the solution to paying actors more isn’t for people in the boardrooms to not continue to make absurd amounts of money in non-creative positions managing creativity, instead the solution is to kill that creativity. Another show has gotten the axe, as Hallmark has cancelled their Yellowstone knockoff Ride after one season. Will more cancellations be coming? Most definitely my dude. 1) Sex Education (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Final Season Otis and Amy are both there for Maeve when she returns home to meet up with her brother and see her mom in the hospital.Only … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/17/23

Gerald’s Game

Where I Watched it: Netflix English Audio description Provided By Descriptive Video Works Narrated by Diane Newman After watching Mike Flanagan’s multiple series for Netflix, I have come to appreciate his brand of horror. he always manages to include gore, but he really is interested in character development. That’s why it is so weird that Gerald’s game is directed by him. The movie starts rather quickly and doesn’t waste time. A couple (Carla Gugino, Bruce greenwood) are on an excursion to a cabin in the middle of nowhere for some romantic sexy time. While this may seem like a spoiler, … Continue reading Gerald’s Game

Old Dads

Where I Watched it: Netflix English Audio Description Provided By: Descriptive Video Works Written By Sara Meadow Narrated By: Arran Henn For Bill Burr to finally be getting his time in the sun at Netflix, it feels overdue. Burr has been around as a comic forever, and Netflix has this deal with Adam Sandler which has been cranking out some truly terrible content. burr, who could be offering a lot of comedic content on the cheap for the service, is trying to strike with old Dads. And, it kinda works. Bill Burr, Bokeem Woodbine, and Bobby Cannavale play a trio … Continue reading Old Dads

I’m not feeling the Pedro Pascal casting as Reed Richards, only because I was really hoping for John Krasinski.I know Pascal is hot right now, with The Last Of Us and The Mandalorian, so it makes sense. but Emily Blunt could have played Invisible Girl, and we know Krasinski can write/direct. Just saying. 1) Shelter (Amazon) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet Renewed Well, that was a doozie of a finale. I think this show was always all over the place, until it actually started trying to tie everything together. I’ve yet to see a Harlan show make a … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/16/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/15/23

Yesterday, I did a Speed Round, and I chose to list the shows in order I watched them, instead of ranking them. I actually kind of like that format better, so I’m sticking with it. Unless you guys riot, in which case, I’ll still probably keep doing it. We will not negotiate with terrorists! Or Netflix, apparently, which cancelled five shows yesterday. II was personally most upset that Glamorous wouldn’t be getting a second season, as I thought the ensemble had strong chemistry, and Agent Elvis was fun, but I know fans of Shadow and Bone worked really hard to … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/15/23

While TV season production starts are lining up, it’s important to still note when a network has abandoned ship. So, RIP to Praise Petey on Freeform. We hardly knew ye. Also, all the drama around the bizarre death of Coyote Vs Acme has led to Warner Bros supposedly screening the movie for other distributors. Who do I think should pick it up? Aside from the humorous potential of having a Looney Tunes movie released by Disney, I’m gonna have to say Tubi. It’s a free streaming service, and a lot of their originals are lower budgeted indies. Should they be … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/13/23

Us

Where I Watched it: Netflix English Audio Description?: Yes During Spooky Season, I wanted to revisit Us. I’ve actually seen Get Out a couple of times, but its is the only Jordan peele movie I’ve repeated. It’s also my favorite, even just comparing the first watches only. I wondered, once you know the twist of us, what is the movie like? Honestly, us wasn’t one of those films where I found myself enraptured by all the details peele put into hiding the twist. While it isn’t where your mind would immediately go, it isn’t impossible either. I also find it … Continue reading Us

Did you watch any programming themed for Veteran’s Day yesterday? Or, were you like me, just catching up? 11) Hey Dude (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: no Status: Ended A cringeworthy episode where Ted is tasked with monitoring water usage, and asks his Native American friend Danny if he can do a rain dance. When Danny says he doesn’t know how, Ted says it’s easy and just does one. Later, this 80’s kids comedy does make a point of mentioning that this is offensive, but it also spends more time invested on Danny trying to figure out how to do … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/11/23

Killer Book Club

Where I Watched it: Netflix English Audio Description Provided By Diffuse One of the first questions I intend to ever ask a Netflix executive is why they think its OK to not provide English audio description for Best picture nominee Roma, which Alfonso Cuaron made for Netflix, and damn near got them their Best Picture Oscar. Yet, this random slasher trash has audio description? Please. There’s not much i can offer to Killer Book Club right now, as it’s November, and I did see this film back in August. However, I did find the movie confusing at times even with … Continue reading Killer Book Club

The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/10/23

The Marvels box office is not just reflective of Marvel fatigue, but also the impact of the strike. Two of the films lead characters are being played by rising stars from Disney plus shows, and were unable to promote the film. Disney should have pushed this back, and now they have their lowest opening ever. 9) Name That Tune (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Unknown honestly, just the most underwhelming episode. Jeff Ross knew all the songs until he got to the final, and then Tig knew all the songs, yet somehow Nicole ended up in the finale. Baffling. … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/10/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/09/23

A couple of things. It’s like these companies were waiting for the strike to end to start their bad behavior. Immediately following news of the strike ending, Warner Bros celebrated by totally and permanently shelving Coyote Vs Acme, another finished feature project, and using it as a tax write-off. So, once again, a ton of artists worked on a film for months, just so it can live forever in a closet. Meanwhile, ABC should have already known the fates of The Rookie Feds and The Good Lawyer, because as soon as the strike was over, ABC cancelled The Rookie Feds, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/09/23
