The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/22/23

Not sure I have any mind blowing TV news.Oh, it would appear there is a new episode of invincible on Prime for anyone who missed out on that push notification yesterday. I’m assuming it’s something they got at Comic Con. 11) Young Sheldon (MAX) English audio Description?: Yes Status: Renewed I didn’t really watch anything I didn’t like yesterday. Sheldon just lost because it wasn’t a standout episode. Sheldon saw himself as an old soul, and was disappointed when he realized he’s just a kid… and can’t date an adult. Episode Grade: B 10) 8 Simple Rules (Disney Plus) English … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/22/23

40 For 40: Part 2

Keeping in line with my 40th birthday this year, here is the second list of films I watched. I’m trying to cast a wide net and bring in multiple streamers, but peacock refuses to host audio description for Universal titles not made in the last 3 years. So just like the first ten, one of these does not have audio description. This list spans films I saw over June and July, so it is possible that some have left the service listed. While there are numbers, this is not a rank of my favorites from best to worst, but rather … Continue reading 40 For 40: Part 2

We have some news finally out of comic con. In The Walking Dead Universe, The Walking Dead: Dead City and Daryl Dixon both have gotten second season pickups. Meanwhile, Amazon was able to run a promo for the upcoming second season of Invincible, and Peacock showed off the upcoming John Wick spinoff The Continental, which was originally being developed at Starz. Sadly, that last project is only 3 episodes. 11) The Full Monty (Hulu) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited The thing is, this show is just one of the growing trend of baffling revivals where people are brought back … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/21/23

The Outlaws

Where I Watched It: Netflix English Audio Description?: Yes The film that is lighting up the Netflix charts, I have a feeling, wouldn’t have done week in theatres. Despite that Adam devine is used perfectly in The Righteous Gemstones, his starring work in films seems to rely on a very specific thing he does. He’s stuck in playing a type, much like Melissa McCarthy or Rebel Wilson, and arguably Chris Farley was in his day. Devine might play characters who are kind and good hearted, but somehow, they are the butt of all the jokes. It’s a problem that Adam … Continue reading The Outlaws

In TV News, FX’s new Alien show is starting filming despite the SAG strike. I’m assuming they have some principal photography they can be doing, and probably are using some non-union talent. 11) Clarissa Explains it All (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended Why is Clarissa’s dad hanging out with Sam and going to the mall with just Sam? Man, my childhood was a simpler time. Dude has two kids, but he’s bonding with Clariss’as friend who presumably has parents. Not really the point of this episode, but that was my takeaway. Episode Grade: C+ 10) All In … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/20/23

Nimona

Where I Watched It: Netflix English Audio Description Provided By Roundabout Entertainment Narrated by: Andy Solas I’ve been seeing quite a lot of posts online about a certain film that Disney refused to release. It’s basically a copy paste, and it’s such an odd flex, and clearly targeting Disney in the continual bullshit culture war perpetuated by a fascist Governor. And, yet, when just a week before, another film that Disney originally had no plans of releasing was finally brought to life by Netflix… crickets. Fucking crickets. Yeah, despite what your angry Fox News buddy would ahve you believe, Sound … Continue reading Nimona

It’s funny how that last episode of Silo that I reviewed yesterday felt so much like a Season Finale, and so many streaming shows cap at 8, I just thought that was the finale. Apparently not. Hah. Damn, that will be hard to top. In other TV news, I’m still supporting the actors and writers for striking to not be replaced by AI. If they don’t do it now, they won’t be working later anyway. Although, the studios current proposal on scanning background talent to use their likeness in perpetuity really makes me wonder who would go be a background … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/18/23

I’ve been deep diving a bit more into the SAG-AFTRA talks and some of the stuff they’re requesting isn’t unreasonable. Actually, none of it is. Just take some of these CEO salaries, lower them, and you’ll have the money to pay for some of this stuff. Also, for the poor people without cable or Peacock, Yellowstone is coming to CBS in the fall since they are a little short on new programming. Add to that, the UK version of Ghosts, which I’m at least interested in checking out.

12) 8 Simple Rules (Disney plus) English Audio Description?: No Sorry, this was a tough day to rank, and 8 Simple Rules just felt like it missed a mark the most. This episode had a solid reference to Three’s Company, but squandered the “kids out of the house” moment by not letting the adults actually have any meaningful time together. john Ritter’s time on the show was fleeting, and I can’t help but think this missed a mark to show that Paul and Kate were more than just parents. What made it worse was that Kate tried so hard to … Continue reading I’ve been deep diving a bit more into the SAG-AFTRA talks and some of the stuff they’re requesting isn’t unreasonable. Audio description. It’s time Hollywood made that the norm, isn’t it? Anyway, i digress. 10) Outlander (Starz) English Audio Description?: No Status: Final Season So, I realized before starting to watch Season 7, i couldn’t remember where we left off. This show is hard enough to watch without audio description, but on top of that it has long gaps between seasons. So, like I did with The Witcher, I’m rewatching a bit. However, I only dropped back 1 season, to Season 6. Even with that, how the season opened, I was like… did I need to rewatch five? I remember … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/16/23

Run Rabbit Run

Where I Watched It: Netflix English Audio Description?: Yes this review is a bit of an exploration of what it means to be blind. So, stick with me here. Admittedly, I’m always running a bit behind on posting a physical review versus filming a YouTube video. Since I can immediately upload the word vomit, it’s just so simple to talk about something almost immediately after I see it. Here I feel like my thoughts have to be more concise, because reading is hard these days. Everything is basically a meme length or it didn’t happen. My initial thought on this … Continue reading Run Rabbit Run

Your fall TV lineup from the networks looks really different. Lots of game shows, reality shows, and non-scripted programming, plus content from the international market. 9) Dinosaurs (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I’m into the second season now. Junior ends up at his dad’s worksite. Will his dad’s boss eat him? These are the deep questions. Episode Grade: B- 8) Dave (FX) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet renewed Also forever known as the Brad Pitt episode, this episode was so bizarre, but Brad Pitt’s level of commitment to this episode made it something else. The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/14/23

It’s amazing how many people out there have no problem consuming the work of the SAG and WGA but are complaining now because they think actors are little babies. While streaming residuals are a factor, since syndication and linear viewing are down, it is not the only factor. The use of AI technology is a key factor in both guilds. The writers do not want AI to be a credited screenwriter taking over their job, nor do the SAG want AI images of them used in perpetuity. The major studios and networks want to do things like scan crowd scenes … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/14/23
