The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/27/23

Really, it’s the doldrums of TV news right now. Even in the world of movie news, the best I got is that I just learned there was a movie in theatres called Anyone But You that stars Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney. Talk about the wrong time of year to open a film like that. Wow. Getting clobbered by films with big budgets and Oscar fare, with two people who really aren’t marketable romcom stars. 1) Everything Now (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet Renewed Clashes begin in the friend zone when people seem at odds with each … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/27/23

Mr Monk’s Last Case

Where I Watched It: peacock English Audio Description?: Yes cast: Presumably, the cast of Monk. This one is barely a review. It’s more of a conversation. I probably could break this down, and review it, but I don’t think I should. Truthfully, I’ve never watched Monk. I only watched this because I was with someone else who loved Monk, and the only reason I’m bothering with a post is because it had audio description. And yes, the audio description seemed to be fine. it is a detective story, so picking up clues along the way feels integral. It also really … Continue reading Mr Monk’s Last Case

Jake Johnson mentioned yesterday that he does not believe Starz will renew Minx. I’m telling you, it’s the only reason I haven’t cancelled yet. I’m living on a prayer. The good news is that they immediately cancelled and pulled Heels right after the finale, and cancelled shining Veil immediately, so the fact they are even thinking about minx means it has a shot. 1) Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (Netflix) English Audio Description Provided By: XTraX Status: Limited Well, the second episode is weird. Scott is *spoiler*, and the episode focuses almost entirely on the evil ex group and a power … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/21/23

Well, the wrong costume won The Masked Singer. Not the one I was rooting for, although, when the winner was revealed, I can’t say that’s a bad person to have on top. Also, Starz is seemingly trying to just turn into the Power network. After rapidly cancelling Heels earlier this year, and recently announcing the upcoming 3rd season of Hightower will be its last, they just cancelled Shining Veil. Really, I’m at a point with Starz that since they offer no accessibility, if they cancel Minx, I really don’t know why I would continue to subscribe. I’d rather save that … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/20/23

HUGE TV news that was like a stake to my heart. This upcoming season of What We do In The Shadows will be its last. However, My Life With The Walter Boys (which is so totally on brand for Netflix) has already been renewed for a second season. 1) Everything Now (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Unknown Another trigger warning, and this episode is great for expanding Mia’s brother. He has feelings too, and he’s barely had anything to do. Well, he’s greatly expanded after this episode. Sometimes, I forgot she had a brother. Episode Grade: B+ 2) Monarch … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/19/23

I’m happy for Fred Armisen, and I’m happy for anyone who actually enjoyed his portrayal of Uncle Fester. He was my least favorite casting choice in the series. I would much rather have watched a prequel series that showed the times Gomez and Mortica spent there as young folk. But the world needs more Fester. 1) bodies (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited My perpetual problem with this show will be the massive cast and the time jumps. there are too many people for me to follow or care about, and I’m also trying to unravel a really complex … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/18/23

The Exorcist: believer

Where I Watched It: Peacock English Audio Description?: Yes Cast: Leslie Odom Jr., Lidya Jewett, Ann Dowd, Norbert Leo Butz, Jennifer Nettles, and Ellen Burstyn. Written By: Peter Sattler and David Gordon green Directed By: David Gordon Green This is my first film in The Exorcist franchise. I truly have not ever taken the time to at least sit down and watch the first film, which is constantly on my to-do list. but, jumping in with David Gordon Green’s attempt at requelling another franchise didn’t make me feel terribly lost. It’s a brand new story with homage to the original. … Continue reading The Exorcist: believer

Tonight is the special series finale for Archer, which means I’ll be waiting to see if this thing has audio description on Hulu the next day. Also, this week brings a new season of What If, as well as the new Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. 1) For All Mankind (Apple Plus) English Audio Description By: PixelLogic Narrated By: Darren Polish Status: Unknown Hell hath no fury like Ed after being fired. He’s very much going to be a thorn in Danielle’s side going forward. Also, Margo makes a tough choice to come an official traitor so she can … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/16/23

Honestly, in television news? I read that Ray Romano has wholeheartedly declined to ever bring back Everybody Loves Raymond. In a world where they keep doing this, most of the time it doesn’t work out. Sure, The Connors is a lone exception, but even that doesn’t have the ratings of the original show, and will fall short of Roseanne’s original run. It’s highly unlikely Paramount Plus is keeping the new Frasier revival around for 11 years. Although, some shows and characters I wouldn’t mind seeing again. Something like Law and Order: Organized Crime allowed for Chris Meloni to return, without … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/15/23

Genie

Where I Watched It: Peacock English Audio Description?: Yes Alas, we have missed out on Melissa McCarthy dancing and singing to Genie In A bottle. That time has passed. She has now already played a genie, and Richard Curtis, in his infinite wisdom, left that out. If you think that joke is bad, you haven’t seen Genie yet. I would love to go to bat for McCarthy. I actually enjoyed Superintelligence. True story. I think she was good as Úrsula in The Little Mermaid (and I was surprised by that notion). Has she chosen some dismal projects recently? yes. And … Continue reading Genie

Yesterday was the nominations for the Critics Choice Film section, and my quick hot take is: they are more concerned with being a bellwether for predicting the Oscar’s that they aren’t doing anything interesting anymore. I think their choices are solid, and mostly what everyone is talking about, with very few exceptions. It’s just that I’ve spent the whole year listening to critics all over the internet talk about their undying love of Past Lives, and how much they want to give Selene Song an Oscar nomination in director, or how is’t a shame that Tao Yoo and John Meggaro … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/13/23

The Golden Globe nominations came out and several TV shows managed to work their way onto the list. But, mostly Succession. 1) Bodies (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited I’m enjoying the mystery of it all, but my complaint is the same. Even as the story impresses me, there are too many damn characters across too many timelines, and these episodes feel crammed and jumbled. I shouldn’t always be wondering who the hell someone is. but, every episode so far, I either wonder who they are, or what timeline we are in. Episode Grade: B+ 2) Billions (Paramount Plus) … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/11/23

The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/09/23

It looks like also that the show Good Trouble has come to an end. I saw some cast reactions. And, Golden Globe nominations are announced tomorrow morning I do believe. It should be more interesting now that the awards are owned by a different body, and categories were expanded. 1) Sex Education (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Final Season Maeve’s Mom’s funeral day is punctuated by other events, including her strained relationship with Otis, who is also having a strained relationship with Eric, who may or may not be communicating with God. Also, Ruby has had about enough of … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/09/23

It took way too long, but Peacock has finally given Twisted Metal a second season. Based on everything I heard about the ratings, this should have happened a long time ago. Amazon renewed Gen V during the strike. it is possible. 1) Everything Now (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet Renewed There is a moment in the fourth episode, where everything comes to a head, and one of Mia’s friends has an outburst that is just so barbed at her, but Mia’s reaction is to just make sure her friend is OK, and calm her down in the … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/07/23

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3

Where I Watched It: Peacock English Audio Description?: Yes Somehow we got here. I blame Tom hanks. It’s hard to blame Tom Hanks for anything, but his Playtone label really helped the first Greek Wedding 20 years ago, and now we are finishing off a trilogy that never needed to be a trilogy. Why is there a Greek Wedding trilogy? The film was about a woman falling in love and getting married, if her Greek family and Windex didn’t get in the way first. The sequel allowed them to show these characters a little older, along with giving our main … Continue reading My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3
