When Harry Met Sally

For Valentine’s Day this year, Apple ran a sale on a lot of digital purchases for all kinds of wants and desires. One look at this broad range of titles, and I knew immediately which film I had to tackle. So, I simply told Apple “I’ll have what she’s having.” What a simple line. it has probably been used just as regular dialogue in so many projects over the years, and even a few that intentionally nod to Rob Reiner’s classic romantic comedy. But, when you say it, it evokes an immediate connection to one film, and one scene. Even … Continue reading When Harry Met Sally

Honestly, in television news? I read that Ray Romano has wholeheartedly declined to ever bring back Everybody Loves Raymond. In a world where they keep doing this, most of the time it doesn’t work out. Sure, The Connors is a lone exception, but even that doesn’t have the ratings of the original show, and will fall short of Roseanne’s original run. It’s highly unlikely Paramount Plus is keeping the new Frasier revival around for 11 years. Although, some shows and characters I wouldn’t mind seeing again. Something like Law and Order: Organized Crime allowed for Chris Meloni to return, without … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/15/23

Albert Brooks: Defending Your Life

Where I Watched It: MAX English Audio Description?: Yes I can’t quite remember my first film of Albert Brooks. It wasn’t Finding Nemo, so don’t worry. I have enjoyed his work for years, and until this documentary, I never really knew about the Albert Brooks that came before his notable film career. That might sound strange. But, while I always knew Brooks could handle comedy, I always just assumed he was a regular actor who was good at being funny. After all, have you seen Broadcast News? It doesn’t scream “stand up”, as there’s this connection he has with Holly … Continue reading Albert Brooks: Defending Your Life

Not a ton of new TV news, but I did see that MAX is slating Season 3 of And Just Like That for 2025. So, all you SATC fanatics have to find something else to do in 2024. 1) Bodies (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Limited Still a very complex series. I realized one of the timelines is in the future, and that wasn’t even the weirdest part. They think they might know whose body it is, so one of the detectives in one of the timelines drops a cool end to the episode. Honestly, it’s just a ton … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/06/23

I wish I could toss out this list and fill it with all of the amazing performances of Matthew Perry that I managed to watch yesterday. Perry was such a tremendous talent, who landed too many one-and-done shows that truly deserved a second season. The best example has to be Studio 60 on The Sunset Strip, where Perry had the option to work with Aaron Sorkin as a series regular. If you have the option to watch that, please do. Also, his short-lived, but equally worthwhile Go on is available on the Roku channel. And now for a bunch of … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/28/30

Friday The 13th was a very unlucky day for one show. Apple pulled the plug on The After Party after two seasons. I’m not really sure why. It always baffles me when a show I see having a strong social media presence among the people in my feed gets cancelled, because it seems so rare that they ever bother to post about shows. but, while the new season was running, I had friends who were really into it. And I can’t say that for most of Apple plus’s programming (even if I’m a fan). 12) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/13/23

Good news! Hulu has picked up only Murders in The Building for a fourth season. Maybe Chevy Chase will get taht Three Amigos reunion he’s been clamoring for. 7) The Irrational (Peacock) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet Renewed I get to free up my schedule by a show now. Two episodes. That was enough for me to tell this procedural can’t escape the been there done that feel of all other shows that came before it, where some smart person consults with police. After years of The Mentalist, lie To Me, unforgettable, and many others, there is nothing … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/03/23

The strike has been going on for a lot longer than the studios thought they would. That’s for sure. I haven’t seen another movie abandon ship from 2023 yet. Only movies that cost a lot of money are likely to do so. 14) Desperate Housewives (Hulu) English Audio Description: No Status: Ended I’m finally ten episodes in. And while there were moments I understood, there were plenty I did not. Lots of quiet scenes, or a scene like Felicity Huffman’s mom taking a break to watch her nanny try to get her kids to eat Brussel Sprouts. It sounded like … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/04/23

Following up on my earlier post about The Great, there are rumors that HBo is looking at picking up the show, as some major stars were already rumored to be joining the Season 4 cast, and the show was apparently in pre-production. Little birds were telling me Jonathan Groff and Laura Linney would have appeared in Season 4. Will HBO save The Great? We will have to wait and see. #11) 911 (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Moving To ABC i was halfway into season 3 before I got this Eddie centric episode, which not only included combat sequences … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/31/23

Final Reminder: Only Murders In The building starts tonight! I have no other interesting TV news, except if Winning Time doesn’t regain the audience it lost, i do not predict a third season. If you’re a big fan of that show, don’t put off watching it. It needs a ratings boost. 12) All In The Family (FreeVee) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended Weird to see this show at the bottom of the list, but while this episode offered Jean Stapleton a bit more to do as she recounts what life was like when Archie has a gambling addiction, it … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 08/07/23

I did a two hour interview on audio description yesterday, and i still had time to watch all of this plus a movie. Plus, there’s actual TV news to talk about! Amazon has renewed The Summer i Turned Pretty for a third season, while Apple plus will not be moving forward with City on Fire. I’m OK with those choices, though I haven’t even started the second season yet of Summer. 12) The Horror Of Delores Roach (Amazon) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet renewed I’m just not latching onto the Justina machado series, even though I love her. Well, after intense pressure, Jeopardy pushed back the Tournament Of Champions they were planning to do without their writing staff, who are currently on strike. So, good for them. I also happened to look ahead at August, which broke my heart. Why are all the best shows ending this year? Breeders, Reservation Dogs, and Archer all return for their final seasons in August. 8) American Born Chinese (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet Renewed The scene between Michelle Yeoh and Stephanie Szu was the best moment, but this show still feels so disconnected with these different storylines, and … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/25/23

In TV News, FX’s new Alien show is starting filming despite the SAG strike. I’m assuming they have some principal photography they can be doing, and probably are using some non-union talent. 11) Clarissa Explains it All (Paramount Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended Why is Clarissa’s dad hanging out with Sam and going to the mall with just Sam? Man, my childhood was a simpler time. Dude has two kids, but he’s bonding with Clariss’as friend who presumably has parents. Not really the point of this episode, but that was my takeaway. Episode Grade: C+ 10) All In … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 07/20/23

Before my TV news, I have to say that I always enjoy looking at the list of who has just been offered an Academy voting membership each year. To me, there’s always some hilarious comparison of someone who is obviously getting it really early, versus someone who has somehow flown under the water. You would think that considering neither of these actors were nominated last year that Bill Hader and Raul Castillo, for example, would not be getting offered membership in the same year. It makes it feel late for Hader, and early for Castillo. I always understand that those … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/28/23

Juneteenth! No TV news, just the fact that today is a holiday! 12) XO Kitty (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Renewed It’s not that the series is bad, it just happens to be in 12th. I honestly only watched the first of the three films this series is a spinoff of, so I didn’t quite understand who the character was, and while it does a fair amount of explaining, I think it assumed the bulk of the audience were already fans. Episode Grade: B- 11) Home Improvement (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended That pumpkin scene at the … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 06/18/23
