Yesterday was the nominations for the Critics Choice Film section, and my quick hot take is: they are more concerned with being a bellwether for predicting the Oscar’s that they aren’t doing anything interesting anymore. Not a ton of new TV news, but I did see that MAX is slating Season 3 of And Just Like That for 2025. NBC has decided to stick with its Freshmen dramas Found and The Irrational for a second season. Hopefully, they stick with Quantum Leap as well. It it looking like the solution to paying actors more isn’t for people in the boardrooms to not continue to make absurd amounts of money in non-creative positions managing creativity, instead the solution is to kill that creativity. Another show has gotten the axe, as Hallmark has cancelled their Yellowstone knockoff Ride after one season. Will more cancellations be coming? The Marvels box office is not just reflective of Marvel fatigue, but also the impact of the strike. Two of the films lead characters are being played by rising stars from Disney plus shows, and were unable to promote the film. Nothing too big in the TV world. The CW confirmed what we already assumed, that this is the final season of The CW… I mean… Superman and Lois. It marks the final show to be cancelled in the once dominant DC Arrowverse that started with the Stephen Amell led series, and birthed spinoffs The Flash, Supergirl, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Batwoman, Superman and Lois, and arguably also Stargirl and Swamp Thing, though those were originally created for DC’s streaming service.
