The Luckiest Man In America

Imagine finding an old VHS tape of Press Your Luck from 1984, and being so inspired by this artifact that you decided to make it your American film debut. That’s exactly how Samir Oliveros got to gift us with The Luckiest Man In America. Based on the true story of Michael Larson (Paul Walter Hauser), a mild mannered ice cream truck driver who has a persistent dream of being on press Your Luck. he drives his truck all the way from Ohio to Los Angeles just to try and get on the show. He seems to the executive producer (David … Continue reading The Luckiest Man In America

Today, I finally found out how Scott Pilgrim Takes Off (Netflix) ended, and I’m not sure what a second season would look like. The adventure is always in getting Scott and Ramona together, so unless they keep telling alternate versions of that story, they’d likely be together in another season. So I fully support the creators intent of this being a limited series. Has Been Hotel (Amazon) crossed into trust building. The songs are silly. This is still a show I like but don’t love, though I give it props for being unlike anything else on the market, and also … Continue reading the Small Screen Diaries- 02/02/24

Christmas is almost upon us. Yet, Peacock is holding their premiere of the Focus features Holiday Oscar contender, The Holdovers, until Dec 29th. What’s so weird, is that The Last Voyage Of The Demeter still hasn’t found its way, and neither has Oppenheimer. Barbie is on MAX, when is Oppenheimer coming to Peacock? 1) Sex Education (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Final Season The series finale. Tonight is the special series finale for Archer, which means I’ll be waiting to see if this thing has audio description on Hulu the next day. Also, this week brings a new season of What If, as well as the new Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. 1) For All Mankind (Apple Plus) English Audio Description By: PixelLogic Narrated By: Darren Polish Status: Unknown Hell hath no fury like Ed after being fired. He’s very much going to be a thorn in Danielle’s side going forward. Also, Margo makes a tough choice to come an official traitor so she can … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/16/23

Woke up to the tributes pouring in for Andre Braugher, who passed away at the age of just 61. He was such a brilliant actor, who could handle drama and comedy. I’m not going to lie and talk about how his performance on Homicide changed my life. I was young, and I never watched Homicide (or NYPD Blue for that matter). I think my favorite performance of his is as the Captain on Brooklyn Nine-Nine, as the seemingly normal one, who as you continued on with the series learned more and more about how eclectic he really was to match … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 12/12/23

I didn’t watch the parade. I broke the Thanksgiving rule. I just wasn’t in the mood. However, I did vegetate a lot in front of the TV. Took a nap. The usual. 1) Everything now (Netflix) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Not Yet Renewed Nothing says Thanksgiving quite like watching a show about a girl with an eating disorder. But, in the third episode, our lead Mia spends most of the episode in her feelings for this girl she likes, only for the episode to once again not turn out the way she expected. It’s so weird to see her … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 11/23/23

The writers struck for minimums in writers rooms, and I guess The CW’s All American Homecoming and Superman and Lois had rooms above the new increased minimum, so they are firing some to reduce costs and shrinking the writers rooms. Let’s be honest, The CW is on life support in its current state. 9) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I gotta give Raylon’s dad props. When i first met Arlo in Season 1, I never expected to see him still kicking around in Season 4, but here he is. Mainly, people still want to take down Boyd, … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/27/23

Friday The 13th was a very unlucky day for one show. Apple pulled the plug on The After Party after two seasons. I’m not really sure why. It always baffles me when a show I see having a strong social media presence among the people in my feed gets cancelled, because it seems so rare that they ever bother to post about shows. but, while the new season was running, I had friends who were really into it. And I can’t say that for most of Apple plus’s programming (even if I’m a fan). 12) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/13/23

I don’t know how I missed the drama, but Starz apparently cancelled Heels, and almost immediately removed the show from its service. There was a notable campaign on Twitter to shame Starz for cancelling the series. honestly, with Outlander in its final season, if they don’t start figuring out their programming, they’ll be the Power network, and it’ll be hard to get people attracted to new shows who aren’t watching Power spinoffs. 11) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended People get shot at in this episode, and it’s tough to figure out who and when, since there’s no … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 10/06/23

Well, the shoe dropped. ABC officially cancelled Home Economics. It’s an odd decision, considering everything I’ve read suggests that sitcoms are the quickest thing to get back on the air. But, I guess ABC doesn’t feel like it had a place for it.Still to be determined: the fate of The Rookie” Feds. 11) Dinosaurs (Disney Plus) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I’m going to pull the trigger finally here and say this show needs audio description. The Dancing With The Stars drama is getting real. A quick update for those who are out of the loop. Dancing With The Stars currently has its contestants in rehearsal for the upcoming season. The WGA has been picketing these rehearsals, and putting pressure specifically on SAG members Alyson Hannigan, Mira Sorvino, and Matt Walsh. The pressure was enough that ABC is mulling pushing back the premiere, as Walsh has caved and paused his participation with the show. However! Turns out, SAG is the honey badger in this scenario, and they told the WGA “We give zero fucks what you … Continue reading The Too Much TV Roundup- 09/21/23

As I told you several times during my watching of the now final season of The Wonder Years, summer burn offs are never a good sign. ABC has officially cancelled the reboot after two seasons. Home Economics remains in limbo due to the strike, as ABC has extended the options on the cast. 11) Desperate Housewives (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Ended I just find this show really difficult to follow without audio description. I wonder what social media is going to do to all the actors who wrote in letters of support for Danny Masterson. It’s not a great look right now for several of his former cast mates, as well as some random names like Giovanni Ribisi and Jonathan Tucker. i think what is truly telling is that not all of the cast did write letters. Topher Grace, Laura Prepon, and Wilmer Valderrama apparently had better sense. 10) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Revival Recently Ended Season 3 finale. Warner TV suspended it’s TV deals with a lot of the major showrunners they had deals with. This strike is just one big power play for the studios. I’m surprised they aren’t just going around cancelling a ton of shows. 11) Family Matters (MAX) English Audio Description?: Yes Status: Ended Continuing his reign of terror, Urkel is given the right to direct a video for the family he’s not a part of. NCIS has an Australian spinoff that is now slated to air in Primetime this fall. So, get ready for NCIS Sydney. No, I’m not joking. 10) 10) Justified (Hulu) English Audio Description?: No Status: Revival Just Ended This time it wasn’t just the shootouts that rendered this episode unwatchable, but also a car explosion.
