I really loved this film. I don’t care what you think or what some bullshit snotty critic thinks. This movie was fucking hilarious. It’s just the perfect amount of heart and crude, and DeNiro and Efron work surprisingly good together. 10% on Rotten Tomatoes? Do people just not like to have fun anymore?
Yes, its really silly, and pretty crude. The plot of the film revolves around DeNiro’s Grandpa who takes his grandson on a trip to Daytona Beach, where some crazy shit happens. Grandpa wants to get laid, and Grandson is a boring lawyer getting married to a boring blonde. For a few days, they’ll cut loose, and get crazy.
This is the kind of movie I never thought DeNiro would make, but I’m so glad he did. He sells the whole movie. Efron is in familiar territory here, as this is pretty close to Neighbors. As far as the supporting cast, Mantzoukas is a standout, and Pally adds a few laughs.
If I had one qualm with the movie it would be that Julianne Hough’s fiancee character never seemed bad enough to not marry. Maybe she wasn’t right for Efron’s character, but she sure didn’t deserve to be left like that. Otherwise, I laughed my ass off.
10% on Rotten Tomatoes? Man, critics can be so lame sometimes. Now at Redbox. Rent it.
