The Too Much TV Roundup- December 28th

I kinda sorta watched nine shows today, and three films. But one show made me go… nope.

9) Unsolved Mysteries (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I quit this series the moment we discovered a sleeping bag full of chopped up body parts. nope. I’m out.

Episode Grade: i quit.

8) Limitless With Chris Hemsworth (Disney plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I mean, nothing like a totally jacked guy worried about his health. You know why Super Size Me worked so well? Because the guy looked like an average guy. Hearing Chris talk about optimizing his body is just a bit condescending to those of us who don’t look like Chris Hemsworth. I wanted to get to the Alzheimer’s episode, but…. No.

Episode Grade: C-

7) Emily In Paris (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I felt like this show was off to a good start in the season premiere, but Emily’s boss is sticking around, and she’s stuck there. Which perhaps isn’t the worst thing in the world, because Sylvia still hasn’t learned a single life lesson in three seasons of this show. But the whole Alfie thing was so awkward, so oddly handled, that I had no choice but to slide this down a really solid list.

Episode Grade: B-

6) Tales Of The jedi (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

This second entry almost went dark, literally, when a jedi started using the death grip. A Jedi. That’s not the way of the force, bro.

Episode Grade: B

5) Inside Amy Schumer (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

That first sketch, about tank ownership, was fire. I don’t always love every sketch equally, but i really wanted this to land higher, but there are just some really great episodes on this list.

Episode Grade: B+

4) Titans (HBo MAX)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I honestly have not fully decided if, talking long term here, I actually like this incredibly dark and disturbing season. I mean, I feel like we’ve fallen off the face of the planet with this seasons plot line, that I still don’t fully comprehend. It certainly is a lot darker, a bit gorier, and less family friendly (not that this show ever really was). The season premiere made a bold choice, and the show is trying to figure its way out of that, and start explaining itself.

Episode Grade: B+

3) 1923 (Paramount Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Like 1883, I find myself intrigued, but still missing that cohesive glue that I’ve come to expect from a Yellowstone ensemble. When you cast heavy hitters like Ford and Mirren, you feel like that’s almost all you need to do, but I need to know the rest of the ensemble, as that is actually why Yellowstone is successful. Kevin Costner may have brought people in, but Kelly Reilly keeps them there.

Episode Grade: A-

2) Reboot (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

The season finale. it ended on a note for sure, and i think the clever way the season ends, where because it’s so meta, Hulu can’t cancel it, is kinda brilliant. Write your shows continued success in the seaosn finale, and your show deals with hulu executives. It’s a smart play. There’s some serious subject matter, and choices made, that will make Season 2 even more emotionally resonant.

Episode Grade: A, Season 1 Grade: A

) Wednesday (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

A character might be dead, Wednesday refused to celebrate her birthday, she doesn’t understand (or care) how friendship works, and she definitely got closer to figuring out who the monster is… but at what cost?

Episode Grade: A
