The Too Much TV Roundup- 01/04/23

Welcome back. Another rejuvenating list. I actually basically enjoyed everything I watched on some level. So, with 7 shows in play, who ended up on top?

7) Down To Earth With Zac Efron (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Zac went into how animal rescues try and save these creatures when things like wildfires occur and devastate their natural habitat. We took a trip to Kangaroo island, which sadly is not a Planet Of THe Apes style society where Kangaroo’s have taken over and started their own form of society. I mean, they tried, but nobody really gives any kind of prudence to their court system. For some reason, the idea of a Kangaroo Court just seems impossible. It’s that kind of thinking that has kept the Kangaroos of the island from being able to form a new society in their own image. I bet they could elect a Speaker Of The House a lot quicker though….

Final Grade: B-

6) The Rookie: Feds (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

So weird. Now the two Rookie shows are back to back, which means crossovers are easier, like this week.Yet Feds was the only one that had audio description, and while it wrapped up what The Rookie started, I always find the flagship show more interesting. Though continuous crossovers will help Feds in the long run.

Episode Grade: B

5) Willow (Disney Plus)

English Audio Description?: Yes

First, Warwick Davis has gotten a lot better at acting since the original film. Willow is less cartoonish and more grounded. It’s like he attended the school for Peter Dinklage Gets Taken Seriously, And you Can Too! So, that helped. But, in a world of so many great fantasy adventure TV shows in existence, this Disney Plus one keeps falling short because it feels like its teen cast fell out of Degrassi. The Prince, for example…. Was he really the best one that auditioned? Really? Seriously? And the fate of the world rests of Alarra, who seems much better suited for Gossip Girl.

Episode Grade: B+

4) The Rookie (ABC/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: No

This episode would be higher if they had audio description. Sadly, this episode was too action packed, and I was missing a lot. And don’t give me that “maybe hulu didn’t have enough time to upload…” because Feds had audio description, and it aired after The Rookie.

Episode Grade: B+

3) Welcome To Chippendales (Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I shall henceforth call this episode Welcome To Our Ensemble. This episode was pretty much dedicated not to the origin of the concept, but the addition of the rest of the Chippendale Avengers. Nick predictably joined the team, and we fired the original dancers, and got introduced to the new ones, including Otis, who wants to learn a bit on the business side. Then, a girl gets up out of the audience, and flirts with Steve and gets herself a job as the bookkeeper/girlfriend/right hand to Steve. Finally, Nick needs someone to work on costumes, so our last Avenger joins. It was an eventful episode, focused entirely on expanding who helped to start this story officially, and the show was made better for it.

Episode Grade: A-

2) Wednesday (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Really, the only reason this is here is because I didn’t like Fester. I’ll stand up for Luis Guzman’s Gomez, because I know the real problem is that no one can ever top Raul Julia, but this was so oddball, and the actor sounded like a child. Very weird. There was a nice twist I didn’t see coming, but then again, I wasn’t expecting being told what a Hyde was.

Episode Grade: A-

1) Bumper In Berlin (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

Last week, I was like… I don’t know. A whole show about bumper? After this week, I finally saw what it was that they were going for, and it really does work. Took me a minute, but I’m now fully on board.

Episode Grade: A
