The Too Much TV Roundup- 03/20/23

Netflix ws really gonna try me like that. Kaleidoscope didn’t leave my continue watching queue, and I was like… haven’t I seen all of this? Clicked on it, and low and behold, it just tries to start you over in another cycle. I don’t want to just keep rewatching the series in new orders over and over. Jesus. Give it a second season, and then we’ll talk.

5) Lockwood and Company (Netflix)

English Audio Description?: Yes

points to the AD team who seem to constantly have some crazy shit to deal with, like this episode, where our leading lady gets trapped in a hidden room under the fireplace. Will the boys find her and save her? I think I was underwhelmed, because at the top of the episode, the change seemed to be that the immediate threat was human this time, then we spent a lot of time, once again, with the undead.

Episode Grade: B+

4) The Great North (FOX/Hulu)

English Audio Description?: Yes

I enjoyed the trip to Anchorage with Beef and son, and the guy who thought they were Terminators. It was silly. I wasn’t fully on board with the B-Plot, until that show choir showed up, and then it was great. that guy’s song was hilarious.

Episode Grade: B+

3) The Consultant (AMAZON)

English Audio Description?: Yes

look. I even fast tracked Episode 2 for you, and i don’t know what to say. This is a weird fucking show, OK? Like, it has me intrigued to keep going into another episode, but it’s also the kind of show where I could see myself going “Oh, No.” really fast and not finishing. So just because it is getting high grades right now, doesn’t reflect that I feel safe in recommending a show until I know what’s behind the curtain. I do feel empowered to say that sadly, this episode doesn’t get a Gold Star on the audio description front. There’s a scene where our female lead is said to be driving home, and we basically get to listen to an entire song, where the volume is turned up. There is NO description during this, like we’re protecting some 1960’s radio hit that is not protected by those “we’re in a musical” rules. It just felt like a montage I didn’t get any info about.

Episode Grade: A-

2) Last Week Tonight (HBo MAX)

English Audio Description?: No

First part really tackles the bank failures, with some great footage. Loved the Elizabeth Warren interview where she laughs openly at self regulation. Then the second half was focused on Time Shares, and while I’ve always had the idea to stay away, I didn’t know quite how bad that world really was. Damn.

Episode Grade: A

1) Bel Air (Peacock)

English Audio Description?: Yes

With no Last Of us to dominate my Mondays anymore, Bel Air season 2 is sweeping in to take the spot. The season opener was solid, really bringing every cast member and all their converging storylines. I was a big fan of Bel Air, season 1. It might not be for everyone, but instead of trying to recreate the impossible formula of the first one, they changed genres and I think that made this work quite well.

Episode Grade: A
