Where I Watched it: AMC Plus/Shudder
English Audio Description?: No
It felt weird leaving October without a Shudder entry, even if not original. I realized that i had never seen this camp classic, and I wondered if the comedy would make up for the lack of audio description. I guess that’s dependent upon what you want from the film.
Being blind and listening to the film without audio description, I miss the character designs, as well as the over the top violence. I read a breakdown that listed the gore in the film, and while everything is presented in that comedic campy horror way, it is quite gory. you don’t get that without audio description. The movie is reduced to some fun dialogue, and wondering if that guy who stopped talking a few scenes ago died.
I wish I could convey how much money these niche streamers are leaving on the table by not hosting audio description. Not only does AMC Plus have movies that already have tracks made, but shudder is the home of so many horror titles, including some exclusives. There are blind people out there who love horror, just like they love anime, British TV, or any of the other mini-streamers. if Shudder truly committed to audio description, horror fans would likely need just one service. And if they did it under the umbrella of AMC Plus, even more bang for your buck.
instead, I can kind of check this campy Klown flick off my list. It was moderately fun. Something tells me I wouldn’t enjoy watching this as a sighted individual due to low production values. I’ve seen Plan 9 From outer Space, and I can’t enjoy that because it just looks awful. but perhaps, I would have, and I certainly would have with audio description.
It’s a clowning shame.
Final Grade: Unwatchable
