Before we dive in, we did lose an iconic filmmaker in David Lynch. One of the true auteurs of cinema, and someone whose presence was always felt behind the camera, for better or worse. I have not seen his entire filmography to tell you which film is best, and I believe several have no audio description. But, his legacy will live on.

Best Episode: Goosebumps- So, definitely not for the little kids. there’s some horror elements in episode 5 I was quite surprised they went there. The funny thing is I remember reading RL Stine’s books back in Elementary School. I’m the right age for Goosebumps actually becoming “a thing”, and even I’m struggling to remember if there was anything quite like some of this. but, I really am enjoying Season 2, and I hope they keep going with this franchise.

Runner Up: High Potential- I do actually like this show, and apparently waiting a full day for Hulu to get their shit together gets us audio description.

Best Performance: David Schwimmer (Goosebumps)- Anthony certainly had his moments this episode, and Schwimmer’s deadpan delivery really helped solidify the awkwardness of his character.I hope between now and the finale he gets to somehow add the line “we were on a break!”

Runner Up: Troian Bellasario (On Call)- Far from her Pretty Little Liars days, Troian has really grown up quite a bit, and has done really solid work as a grizzled cop on the beat in this Wolf produced drama. i worry it is so forgettable Amazon won’t continue it, but she deserves at least a mention at some point.

Best Audio Description: goosebumps- It has been getting the top spot a lot, because there is so much weird stuff to describe. In this episode, the horror elements include a sequence with a detached eyeball hanging from the socket that will make you squirm.

Runner Up: High Potential/Will Trent- They don’t really deserve this spot. on call or XO Kitty does. but, I haven’t heard AD on these shows in a while. I’d like to encourage it. Also, while listening to a bunch of crap that is being assigned to ViTech, it is possible these two shows are the best things they are doing right now. So, if I could get everything at least to this point, from them, the world would be a better place.

best Moment Of Audio Description: goosebumps- The aforementioned eyeball sequence. There’s a build up to it, where you know something is wrong, the reveal, which is shocking in and of itself, but then there’s this whole sequence where the person is trying to put their eyeball back in, and it was just… gooey. Ick! but very well done.

Runner up- On Call- This series has been pretty good at describing dead bodies, or bodies in states of severe distress. There’s one found here, and once again, the team did not disappoint.

Worst Of… Anything?- There was some really rough acting this episode of Birgin River. The melodrama was kicked up a notch, and actors with very little range were asked to give more than they could, or were used to giving. Also, the lack of Muriel at this point is bothering me. I get it, it’s Mel’s wedding. but I literally laughed when Doc stood up and gave the speech about how it feels like Mel and Jack have always been together… except for that whole time, where she didn’t live in Virgin River, was married to another guy, and planning on starting a family with him. other than that… sure. I guess. Virgin River doesn’t need to be great, it just needs to stay in its lane.

Say Something!
