TV News: fans of SWAT might have heard the drama over the series being cancelled, again, but a spinoff is already in the works that has a straight-to-series order from Sony without even a committed network or streamer, that only is keeping Shemar Moore. Also, progress is being made on the Scrubs revival, as Zach Braff officially signed onto the new iteration.

Best Episode: the Rehearsal- Nathan Fielder has caught controversy in Season 2 for having people invest their time and money in a fake singing competition, but in Season 1, his rehearsal is about preparing to be a parent. Why this episode stood out to me a lot, is it was a little unlike his other episodes, because he seemed to really take a look at the downstream effect of one of the child actors he hired to play the fake son at 6 years old, had really taken to him, and there was this whole thing where they didn’t think about casting a child growing up without a father in real life, and how attached that kid would become in real life to Nathan. Nathan ends up trying everything to keep his other child actors from forming this bond, but it ultimately defeats the purpose. It has some really serious moments with this little kid who doesn’t fully understand the concept of The Rehearsal still calling him Daddy even after filming, and forcing NAthan to actually reconcile at least a little bit with the unintended consequences of his sustained comedy.
Runner Up: Forever- A lovely episode that took our families out to Martha’s Vineyrd, where Jason found out what voicemail was for the very first time, dramatically changing his interactions with Keisha.
Best Audio Description- The Last Of Us- Clearly, I’m not a fan of the finale, but that doesn’t change the quality of this audio description track. it continues to be fantastic, even if this episode didn’t have a single zombie in it. Not one.
runner Up: You- Kind of a complicated series to get done right, because as we get closer to the end, and this episode focuses on a perspective that isn’t joe, we run the risk of romanticizing a serial killer all over again. Brontë has what would seem to be a misguided take on Joe, but this isn’t the end just yet.
Best Performance: Bella Ramsey (The Last Of us)- despite the episode, bella is still terrific in it, and their range continues to be award worthy, even when not supported by material that makes sense, or is even trying to not appear like a video game anymore.
Runner Up: Rhea Perlman (Poker Face)- Fun to see her return as one of the heads of the five families. She was also on Midcentury Modern this season, and I’m glad she’s still getting fun guest roles.
Best Moment Of Audio Description: deliver Me (The last Of Us)- A very emotional scene, and even though it didn’t fully work for me, the audio description was excellent and supported Bella’s choices very well.
Runner Up: The Bird Of truth (Wondla)- there’s this bird that flies into your mouth, and you can’t lie, and it also creates projections. Very science fiction, and some fun description.
Worst Of…- The Worst Of Us? they already have backlash online, and their viewership is down from last season, so they can either try and course correct, or they can believe that the video game is this biblical text that can have no alterations, and not bring in anyone with fresh perspectives on how to make the series not feel like checkpoint to checkpoint, and also keeping the worst choices from the video game. At least the second episode of the season had that great zombie battle. There isn’t even a zombie in the season finale.
