TV Shows Watched: Murderbot: S1E4 (Apple Plus) with audio description, Dept Q: S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description, The Buccaneers: S1E1 (Apple plus) with audio description, Battle Camp: S1E8 (Netflix) with audio description, Top Chef: S22E11 (Peacock) with audio description, Earnhardt: S1E2 (Amazon) with audio description, The Rehearsal: S2E1 (MAX) with audio description, Jeopardy Masters: S3E7 (Hulu) with audio description, and the Four Seasons: S1E7 (Netflix) with audio description.
Best Episode: the Rehearsal- He’s using his powers for good, now diving into the hilarious topic of plane crashes, while pointing out that he has the resources to do something meaningful, but also trying to make a comedy series. Nathan’s brand of humor mixed with a desire to follow “if you see something, say something”, made for a strong episode.
Runner Up: Murderbot- Still love this show. This was a fun episode as Murderbot struggled to control his body and fight programming, which was hilariously juxtaposed against him believing he was superior because humans were defined by cells, and his structure was permanent (ish). So, seeing him lack control of his body at times was the kind of irony we needed.
Best Audio Description: The Four Seasons- I haven’t really been a fan of the show, and I don’t like it as much as I should given the cast, but against everything else, this was the best track of the day. Lots of importance around the cell phones, as well as the general reactions people have in their fights as friends, couples, and the ending we are saddled with.
Runner Up: Battle Camp- when The traitors comes around for Season 4, if it is stil narrated by the same company, I will have watched enough similar shows with exceedingly better audio description that I will read that track for absolute filth. Already, they should be ashamed. seemingly every other show like it has audio description that is offering fr more in content than The Traitors, and have narrators who don’t sound AI adjacent and make me want to put my head through a wall.
Best Performance: Matthew Goode (dept. Q)- I’m still not loving this show, but he’s a very good actor who elevates the work around him. Maybe he can save it. he has levels of complexity I appreciated as his character starts to recover from Episode 1, while also trying to solve it.
Runner Up: Nathan fielder (The Rehearsal)- I’m not sure this is a performance, as he’s likely just being himself, but his droll delivery while musing on the systematic problems in our airspace will make you not excited to fly anytime soon.
Best Moment Of Audio description: Written On the wall (dept Q)- I thought it was a nice touch, when we were with the girl in the hyperbolic chamber, that we saw something etched in the wall. it was like “Timothy was here.” No idea if that will mean something down the line.
Runner Up: Did I Hear that Right? (Top Chef)- This is either brilliant, or not, but I swear the description said mossimo picked up a piece of his fruit jerky from the floor and plated it. He ends up in the top 3 with no consequences. Did he plate it? Did someone eat floor jerky on Top Chef? if so… eeeeeeeeeewwwwww.
Worst of- Aside from maybe what Mossimo did, man that “character exit” on the Four Seasons was abrupt. I know, things can be abrupt, but this is also a show that wrote a hurricane that appeared out of nowhere. So, I just feel like the writing isn’t strong.
