TV Shows Watched: Wondla: S2E6 (Apple plus) with audio description, Motorheads: S1E5 (Amazon) with audio description, Forever: S1E6 (Netflix) with audio description, You: S5E6 (Netflix) with audio description, Midcentury modern: S1E10 (Hulu) with audio description, last Week tonight: Most Recent (MAX) no audio description
Best Episode: forever- I really enjoyed this one, as Keisha is forced to tell her mom about the sex tape. Justin’s mom now knows, and she can’t fathom a world where a parent doesn’t know that information, so she threatens to call Keisha’s mom herself. There’s also an excellent scene with Justin maybe about to be pulled over, and even I was scared for him.
Runner Up: MidCentury Modern- Lots of callbacks for the finale, and they did address the elephant in the room with the lack of Linda Lavin, and also having had a possible replacement for her recurring the whole time. I’m glad they talked about it, and ultimately decided she was irreplaceable.
Best Audio Description: You- The audio description here is effectively icky and creepy when needed, and captures the action and tension as required.
Runner Up: Wondla- they were attacked this week by giant freaking robots! Who can save Eva? Why are the hoo-mans so evil? (That’s just how the aliens pronounce humans in the show).
Best Performance: Nathan Lee Graham (Midcentury Modern)- I’ve recognized the other three leads, and I kept waiting for a big moment for Arthur, but he just gets to savagely read people all season long. I love Arthur, and i can’t let Midcentury Modern go without recognizing Graham.
Runner Up: Levy Simone (Forever)- Keisha’s heart was breaking all over this episode as she had to tell her mom the worst thing she believes she’s ever done, breaking that bubble of perfection. She had another solid moment where, after Justin tells her his mom knows, she realizes how many people out there still know, and are talking about it, and she can’t get away from it.
Best Moment Of Audio Description: The Tar Pits Fight (Wondla)- I really enjoyed this sequence, and the even bigger robot. I liked how the aliens were trying to fight these things, and outsmart them. It was all well described.
Runner Up: love Joe? (You)- one of the ickiest things is that Joe might get away with all of it, and while he’s being interviewed, he starts putting on the charm, and sympathy pours in. It captured the reaction of everyone filming the interview, but also Kate’s reaction, and the comments online. Things are depressingly looking up for joe. He’s not righteous, and I don’t need him to be alive at the end.
Worst Of…- Nothing. I loved all these shows. I know Last Week tonight could have audio description quicker, but they add it eventually. It shoots on Saturday, and unlike other shows, it doesn’t air live. So the turnaround would need to be really fast, but they also edit they show, and it isn’t like SNL in that regard. It has such a quick turnaround that I’m more interested in not waiting for the AD and keeping my news current. I don’t know how long it takes for them to add it.
