The Small Screen Diaries- The Weekly Rankings

Another week, another set of shows entering, and some exiting either because I finished all currently available episodes, or by force.

WINNER: hacks (MAX) with audio description- As I continue to slowly progress and enjoy every episode, I can’t shake the reality that with some of the serious dramas out of the way, hacks is the best thing I’m watching. But, will it be enough to get Hannah Einbinder finally an Emmy? That remains to be seen.

Runner Up: Etoile (Amazon) with audio description- Amazon sold their souls to the devil, and revoked their second season renewal for Etoile. The whole point of taking a risk on this, and allowing Amy Sherman Palladino to have another shot at essentially creating the magic that has left Bunheads as a classic short lived series, but in a new form, is that the audience will find this show. Maybe not on day one, but the word of mouth is what matters. This is something ABC Family didn’t get when they axed Bunheads too quickly, and apparently Amazon is not reading the history books, and are instead repeating it. Rest in peace, Etoile. Just as I finish, Amazon tells me you are no more.

#3- Sirens (Netflix) with audio description- Another show I’m just slowly enjoying. it is a five episode series, and I should be done by now, but these episodes are so damn good, it has risen to Top 3 status. With Etoile gone next week, Sirens is likely to finish just under Hacks. The audio description here is one of my favorites on this list.

#4- From (MGM Plus) with audio description- one of the shows on the list I’m catching up on. I still prefer the Season 1 audio description over the Season 2 description.

#5- Black Mirror (Netflix) with audio description- Shot up after the White Bear episode. It had been hovering around the bottom of the Top 10, but that episode was brilliant, and thought provoking. Another one I’m catching up on.

#6- Poker Face (Peacock) with audio description- It is strange to think Natasha Lyonne might miss out on an Emmy nomination again for this show, and her work is so good.

#7- Last Week Tonight With John Oliver (MAX) no audio description- Always the top ranked show without audio description.

#8- Bet (Netflix) with audio description-I’ve mentioned before, but I think I’m the only person who enjoys this, based on what I’ve seen online. I’m OK with that. But, I’ve also figured out this is unlikely to get another season.

#9- Murderbot (Apple Plus) with audio description- A fun and often funny science fiction series that I’m sure plays well with the audience, and blends action and comedy. Alexander Skarsgard leads a strong ensemble. However, I finish every episode believing a different AD writer could have pulled more out.

#10- Midcentury Modern (Hulu) with audio description- Finished. And, it finally cracked the top 10. Rumors abound they aren’t looking to make a second season, not from Hulu’s standpoint, but the cast. it is possible the loss of Linda Lavin hit them that hard.

#11- Stick (Apple Plus) Owen Wilson’s new show is the magic that Apple has been missing after Ted lasso ended, and then got revived with the cast still undetermined. I’m surprised at the runtime of the pilot. it is longer than Murderbot, and that just doesn’t feel right. I’m hoping it was just a longer pilot, and not every episode is going to push an hour.

#12- Jurassic World: Chaos Theory (Netflix) with audio description- Almost done, but not yet. longtime fan of this series, and the one that came before it.

#13- Overcompensating (Amazon) with audio description- Another show that keeps growing on me. I’m halfway through the season. The audio description has been pretty solid so far, and the cast has done nice work.

#14- The Better Sister (Amazon) with audio description- Shit gets real in the second episode as the cops close in. the leading ladies are doing some fine work, especially now that they have more equal screentime. If this is the killer, they really found him fast.

#15- The Daily Show (Paramount Plus) no audio description- Watched one episode last week.

#16- Forever (Netflix) with audio description- Another series that got a boost after its last episode. Keisha finally having to confront her mother, and Justin having a mild panic attack when a cop is even near him.

#17- Your Friends And Neighbors (Apple Plus) with audio description- It has slid, but I think this has also leveled as I’m also almost done with Season 1.I don’t think it gets any major Emmy nominations, much to the chagrin of Apple.

#18- Nine Perfect Strangers (Hulu) with audio description- Up a bit after watching dolly Deleon bring the fire. I didn’t think this show needed another season, but it is like White Lotus, and gives actors the room to create wonderful characters.

#19- Pop Culture Jeopardy (Amazon) with audio description- Man, they filmed a ton of these episodes. By the time I finish, they’ll be pumping out season 2. I’m half kidding… I think.

#20- Jeopardy Masters (Hulu) with audio description- Done. Surprised by the result, but done.

#21- The Pitt (MAX) with audio description- A show that I once booted from my list is about a week from breaking into the top 20. I’ve come a long way with the Pitt. I still wouldn’t pick it for Best Drama, but I can see why some would nominate it.

#22- Duster (MAX) with audio description- Another show on the rise. Each episode continues to surprise and impress. #23- You (Netflix) with audio description- I’m getting concerned that You creators felt that Joe needed a happy ending. please, don’t. I hope that isn’t the case.

#24- The Rehearsal (MAX) with audio description- Another show that has risen. it really started jumping when i got to Season 2, and I think Nathan has really found his stride.

#25- the Walking dead: Dead City (AMC Plus) no audio description- Longtime fan of Walking Dead, but i have to do extra research to piece things together, which is not fun. this would easily be higher on the list if AMC Plus supported with audio description.

#26- Wondla (Apple Plus) with audio description- Who will save Eva? this second season has lived up to the promise laid out in the first, and the voice actors are doing some nice work.

#27- Adults (Hulu) with audio description- This feels like the right starting point for the new FX comedy series, which is like so many other shows, but reflective of the times. These young adults have different problems than the casts of New girl, Happy endings, How I Met your Mother, Living Single, or Friends.

#28- The Survivors (Netflix) with audio description- A bit of a slow start to the first episode, but a solid finish. I think this is a nice place to start this show.

#29- And Just Like That (MAX) with audio description- Two episodes in, and as soon as another guy even half flirts with Carrie, I want her to go for it. I never liked Aiden in the original series, and he’s still a wet mop. I am loving the new girls added to the revival, though I miss Sara Ramirez deeply.

#30- the Stolen Girl (Disney Plus) no audio description- I finished this. It needed audio description. Some really strong performances, but there have been better limited shows this year. It had a nice twist to it.

Top Chef (Peacock) with audio description- When it got down to the final five, and everyone had a perfect dish, I felt so bad for mossimo. I wanted him to win, and he got eliminated for some bullshit. Like, really no reason. he’s been a stronger chef all season long. i considered dropping this down the list more. We shall see how they dig themselves out of this one.

#32- Drag Race All Stars (Paramount Plus) with audio description- In reverse of what was above, I actually don’t have a favorite in group two. So, maybe something will surprise and jump out at me.

#33- Motorheads (Amazon) with audio description- this CW vibe show has started playing with some of the less likeable characters, and making them more complex. I think it makes this a slightly stronger show.

#34- Bosch Legacy (Amazon) with audio description- The last episode added a bit of a road bump in the “did Bosch hire someone on the inside?” Storyline. A solid performer. I know what I’m getting.

#35- The Buccaneers (Apple Plus) with audio description- I know why I didn’t like this before, and it is because the actresses are too modern for a period drama. Second time around, I’m less bothered by it.It’s just a light show, not an Emmy contender.

#36- Yellowstone (Peacock) with audio description- watching this limp toward the end without Kevin Costner.

#37- Ginny and Georgia (Netflix) with audio description- Another show not to be taken seriously. this is a rewatch, because I only watched Season 1, not 2, and 3 just dropped. I’m hearing it already got a Season 4 pick up.

#38- department Q (Netflix) with audio description- it has gotten a bit more interesting, but it could be doing a lot more.

#39- The Great North (Hulu) no audio description- A steady and reliable performer for me.

#40- SNL (Peacock) with audio description- Last episode I saw was the Quinta Brunson episode, and it was one of my favorite all season. it also had some really strong audio description.

#41- the Four Seasons (Netflix) with audio description- This is not one of my favorites. A bold choice late in the series, and I’m not sure it pays off.

#42- tires (Netflix) with audio description- Shane Gillis has an edgy show that pushes boundaries. i respect that he’s trying to return comedy to a bit more edgier place, but not all of his jokes land with me. It could be worse, sure, but it just is pretty average.

#43- Earnhardt (Amazon) with audio description- I’m three episodes in. So, I should be close to done. A nice look at this family, if you are interested in learning more.

#44- ransom canyon (Netflix) with audio description- I finished this and I don’t care if it gets picked up or not, but i also would probably still watch it. I also wouldn’t recommend it, which says something about my taste. James Brolin is good in this.

#45- 911 (Hulu) sometimes with audio description- Man, they had one big cast exit, and if they end up with another, I don’t think the writing is strong enough to sustain those cast losses. Only one episode left for me before this one is off the list.

#46- Love Death and robots (Netflix) with audio description- My favorite episode of the season was still the first, but the nature of anthology shows is that each episode is totally its own thing. The audio description is excellent.

#47- No Man’s Land (Hulu) with audio description- this is a heavy show. I’m shocked Hulu wanted a second season of this. the audio description has a lot to do, but this is just a brutal and dismal show most of the time.

#48- Yes chef (Peacock) with audio description- it’s fine. Just fine.

#49- Destination X (Peacock) with audio description- Also, just fine. I do love Jeffrey dean Morgan, so there’s that.

#50- the Secrets we Keep (Netflix) with audio description- If the show doesn’t end predictably, I might move it up more. Honestly, it should be at least four or five slots higher, but it also has TTS audio description. So it loses a few points.

#51- America’s Got Talent (Peacock) with audio description- One of the best audio description tracks I’m listening to. I wish I could be more engaged, but this is where this is.

#52- Grimmsburg (Netflix) with audio description- Still catching up on season 1 with audio description. ten episodes down.

#53- Battle camp (Netflix) with audio description- Only one episode left.

#54- Government Cheese (Apple Plus) with audio description- Also, only one episode left.

#55- The Narrow road to The Deep North (Amazon) with audio description- if you want to be really depressed, watch this and No Man’s Land back to back.

#56- Lazarus (MAX) with audio description- I’m done with 9 episodes, so if this is a 10 episode season, I might finish this next week.

#57- Dark Winds (Netflix) no audio description yet- I am seriously considering just skipping over the rest of Season 1, because this is barely anything without it.

#58- the Kardashians (Hulu) with audio description- moving into Season 2.

#59 Berlin ER (Apple Plus) with audio description- i actually watched an episode this week. This show has hung on at the bottom for so long, I’m determined to finish it.

#60- Bad thoughts (Netflix) with audio description-A lot of groan worthy humor, inconsistent audio description, and a tough sell has put this at the bottom of the list.

Danger Zone: The Second Best Hospital In The galaxy

DOA- American Ninja warrior and Phineas and ferb.
