New TV Show Alert!- F1: The Academy takes 15 aspiring female drivers and puts them through a tough training to get them ready for prime time. Which of these drivers will make it to the track? Find out in seven episodes. it doesn’t play like a typical reality competition series, where people have challenges, and are eliminated, or voted off. the first episode gave a solid intro to the girls, structurally, allowing them to tell us who they were. I’m not sure we met all fifteen, but maybe they don’t all matter.

Best episode: From- I certainly have questions. I do. Because, there’s a suggestion tht this might all be happening in someone’s head, or things might not be real. It’s not a path they can go down, not really, because they showed us things that have no payoff if that’s true, like the old couple on the bus. No one was there to see that, so what is the point? However, the stuff with Kelly was really effective, and that put it over Hacks.

runner Up: Hacks- When everything you do is amazing, and then you make something that is really good, but not amazing, this episode happens. This episode was fine, but trying to rope back in characters who hadn’t been around this season, just to check on them wasn’t quite as much of a payoff as some previous episodes. I did love the comic that was featured at the end. His stuff made me laugh, as did the whole thing going on with Dance Mom.

Best Audio Description: Jurassic world: Chaos theory- I made up my mind that it would win when I was watching it. Not only did I love the description, but taking a scene like the Allosaurus lurking around, not only was the description of the dinosaur great with the teeth and body shape. But, it also, it labels all these dinosaurs, exactly what kind they are, which requires work I assume, unless the writer is a dinosaur expert. the detail here has always impressed me.

runner Up: F1: The Academy- I liked this track as well. From was pretty tame this week, and the description here is strong for either a docuseries, or a competition show.

Best performance: Jeffrey Dean Morgan (The Walking Dead: dead City)- I loved his monologue as Negan, talking to the historian, about how he’s looked back on his past, and how he thought by leading the saviors, and bashing a few heads in, he was saving them. But, realizing he created someone like the Croad, led him to think really everyone needed saving from him. A solid moment if you’ve been following this character for a while, in an otherwise poorly written episode.

Runner Up: Lauren Cohen (The Walking Dead: Dead City)- I kno what I just said, but these two monologues were the only things that worked. she also has a really effective monologue where she tells Jenny why she maybe hasn’t killed Negan herself yet, and why she regrets it, or maybe not. she knows Jenny is thinking about revenge, and she explores her history with it in a nice way you would need to for a kid who is going to die soon.

Best moment Of Audio Description: The allosaurus (Chaos theory)- Already mentioned. chef’s Kiss. Perfect.

runner Up: Brooklyn And The Pipe (Chaos Theory)- Yeah, this show gets both spots. Brooklyn being trapped under debris and needing to figure a way out was well described. This girl is a bad ass.

Worst Of…- Two shows without AD. Yesterday, Hulu was the loser for doing forced logouts, and after I wrote that, I was logged out of another device. I need to keep track of how often Hulu is the loser of the day. It feels like a lot. However, even though The Great North is also on Hulu, and i could shame them, it also feels about damn time to turn back around on AMC Plus and say, isn’t it time you get your shit together? Like, really. I hope all the people who keep blocking accessibility at AMC Plus end up needing some form of accessibility or help in their future, only to be denied it, even when it seems like a request that should happen. This service has the ability to do audio description. As someone who could see, and now cannot, I cannot stres how we should be more focused on building an accessible world because we are playing with fire when we don’t. you don’t know what is ahead for you, or the people you care about, and standing in the way of accessibility is just about the most asinine thing you could do.

Say Something!
