I originally started doing the awards stufff during awards season, and now I’m just avoiding talking about shows. I don’t always have anything profound to say. the truth is, when I watch anywhere from 5-12 shows, and 1-3 movies a day, it is a lot to remember all the nuance, so it ends up really being the big moments that stuck with me. Some things just end up being fine.

the Walking dead: Dead City- I like the show. That’s why I put up with its lack of accessibility, because I bleed the Walking Dead. But even with strong performances from Jeffrey dean Morgan and the cast, I still have to look up a sighted person talking about the details, because I’m missing things. it pisses me off, because I should be able to continue to enjoy this franchise, but AMC is dragging ass on embracing audio description.

from is an excellent show to get into. I love the lore, and how it doesn’t give you easy answers, and continues to ask more questions while leaving a lot unanswered. I think that is the strength of the show. A very strong supporting ensemble, and brutal deaths. I do prefer the Season 1 audio description, though the show has so much to describe, it is really hard to not stand out.

Top Chef- Went from 4 to 3, and now I only have the finale left. I only really like one of the remaining three, and they were my second favorite chef. So, i am less enthused. However, my first season with audio description with Top chef proves that something is better than nothing sometimes. it can’t make me hungry by being able to see this delicious food, but it can certainly try. please keep trying. If you make me hungry, we will have finally achieved true perfection in audio description.

Yes Chef- Basically, a lot like top chef, but with a different team. I’d give the same notes.

Lazarus- This show has fairly decent written audio description. i don’t understand the nuances of mono and stereo, and I’m not a sound designer. However, i can hear. And, this track is recorded at a lower quality, which is why I never mention it. I’m not happy with the track, and while the series started off interesting, it is stretching at this point.

the Survivors- The details of this will be in the finish. What is the answer to this mystery? it is only five episodes, so it isn’t stretching for time, but sometimes I still feel underinformed. The audio description is fine, and it follows a typical mystery trajectory where clues matter.

Breaking Bad- I’m using the summer to try and catch up on some things, including this, which I never watched, but has always been on my list. i like it. Already got through Better Call Saul. Diane Newman is doing the audio description here, and she’s great. the track has several standout moments, especially when Jesse finds out why he needed the plastic. Great stuff.

Bosch Legacy- Sometimes this track will capture a moment and make me surprised at how good the depth is, but it really is just a solid track, that gets you from point A to B, which is a little like this cop drama. It is a spinoff of the original, with most of the original cast, and it doesn’t want to be labeled a procedural, but it feels standard. i call it reliable a lot, because I know exactly what to expect from Bosch, and the same is true about the audio description.

Futurama- Hulu being Hulu means I’m not surprised that when they rebooted Futurama, they didn’t hire a company to go back through and audio describe the show. However, my own personal history with the show, means I never watched in any kind of order, and just saw random episodes when they were on. So, this rewatch has me catching some old favorites, and new episodes I missed, trying to get to the new stuff. So, it is without audio description… for now.
