Iron Heart- So, I would have put this as the top AD track, except there’s this weird thing in the second episode where it describes smiling, but in both instances the description was like “smiles but the smile doesn’t reach their eyes”, which I thought was so oddly specific. A smirk? I have no idea what you’re going for here, because technically, your lips and smile never reach your eyes, they just kinda scrunch your cheeks up a bit. I’ve been lost at sea ever since this choice. And, it was used twice in the same episode for two different characters. So. Weird. Can the writer of Iron Heart shoot me a message and tell me what you were going for? it is so oddly specific, it is going to drive me crazy. I’ve been doing smiles all day yesterday and this morning trying to figure out what on earth… I don’t think this specific way of describing smiles has been used before, but certainly not often.
Smoke- This is still a great series with a lot of potential, and I’m excited for it. Jurnee did a great job, bringing some darkness to her character with what she’s willing to do. I like it.
the Pitt- An excellent ensemble and heartbreaking cases continue to propel this show forward. Four more episodes left.
No Man’s Land- Honestly, there’s so much English in the show now, that the dubbing of the audio description seems like it won’t take up nearly the amount of time it did in the first season. i think I’m done with this. It is just too dark, depressing, and now kinda slow.
Such Brave Girls- I decided to take a look at this, preemptively, because the new season is next week and I’ve never watched this before. it was OK. I didn’t immediately hate it, but I’ve certainly found other British comedies funnier before. The audio description was a bit much, and is probably an acquired taste. Like the next show I’m about to talk about, it just doesn’t feel like the right narrator.
We Were Liars- I’m unimpressed. I know this is a hit, and I acknowledge it might be the audio description. Rarely does the AD actually totally impede my ability to enjoy the show, but this narrator is really making me question. The worst part is, she’s actually a good narrator… for other things. Just not this. If The Land Before time ever gets an audio description track, especially the sequels that have zero emotional weight, hire her. Disney should use her to bring AD to Ariel jr. This show is really dramatic and dark at times, and the contrast is so obvious. This episode had one of the teens having this episode, breaking bottles and stuff, clearly having a Baker Acgt moment. Then, we get this perky description of a video of him beating the ever loving shit out of some kid, and it all just feels so weird.
Poker Face- Delightful. Charlie visits New York, and once again gets pulled into another murder mystery, all over rent controlled apartments. Well described, and a fun episode to cap my TV watching for the day.
