Iron Heart- Ok. So, spoilers… the finale was solid overall, and wrapped up what it needed to, but also served as an excellent conduit to introduce Sacha Baron Cohen as Mephisto, a pretty big Marvel villain. Giving him this soft launch feels like what they did with Jonathan Majors in Loki. He was supposed to be the new big bad for the Avengers, and with Doom posing a problem for them coming up, I do wonder how Cohen will be used. But, he was born for this, and stole the show. Iron Heart isn’t my favorite MCU show, but it also isn’t my least favorite. I actually enjoyed it more than Daredevil Born Again.
Stick- Zero gets more fleshed out as a character, and they get a grasp of golf, while everyone learns more about them. I had a lot of really strong performers today, but Marc Maron has a great scene in this episode too. His dramatic chops are always undervalued. I wish he had gotten more praise for Glow, or rode Andrea riseborogh’s coattails to a Supporting Actor nomination for To Leslie.
The Bear- Didn’t like the episode. It’s actually my least favorite of the season. I loved the fishes episode from two seasons ago, and it felt like they wanted to recreate that. After some really strong episodes for Sydney, this felt more like an overly long episode that has a few strong beats, and didn’t know how to connect them together, so we just meander around for a litttle over an hour. was there some good stuff? Sure. Did it all work together? To use my little Top Chef knowledge, I’d say this dish had some interesting components, but none of them worked together to create a cohesive plate.
Department Q- it’s fine. I know other people are more excited about this. I would peg this with the special award for “show I looked at my phone the most during”.
countdown- This show works best when it focuses on a limited amount of the cast. I enjoyed the prison break stuff with Jensen Ackles, and thought he was fun. better than the last two episodes, and had some nice narration.
Euphoria- We saw the backstory for Jules, which was heartbreaking. the only reason it didn’t win the day, was because the episode felt like it couldn’t just stick to that. we couldn’t just have an episode fully dedicated to the journey of Jules, but that was the strongest part. And, very well described, from the stuff in the mental hospital, to something as simple as her taking the lit cigarette out of her sleeping mom’s mouth and putting it out. very well done.
The Office- I have been casually rewatching this off and on, but making more of an effort due to the pending reboot. Technically, I believe the new show isn’t tethered at all to the old one, and is at a different company, but just in case, I’m just throwing it in the mix. Sadly, no AD on Peacock. Michael hired a stripper. It was that episode, for fans of the show.
Bosch Legacy- So close to the end. Will Bosch get the closure he needs? Is the show going to close the book on Bosch forever, or leave it possible for him to hop over to Netflix’s The Lincoln Lawyer (since those books are in the same universe).
