Alien earth- I’ve been generally positive on this show, minus episode 5 which was deeply flawed in every way. This finale is a hot ass mess. You can see how Noah Hauley, who gained FX’s favor for bringing us the anthology series Fargo, has no idea what to do in a finale. Nothing is resolved, and the episode feels like it directly sets up an episode 9 that may never come. I will do a full review for RT, but when creators are this bold, it can be even more devestating when a series either ends up never getting that second season order, or having one revoked or reduced. I believe Disney did commit to a Season 2 before Season 1 launched, but so did Amazon with Etoile. Just saying.

Marvel Zombies- I can see why MArvel is burning this off. I’ve also heard they are kicking around a potential Season 2, because they know the concept works. these New Avengers are the stars, and they are largely being blamed for Marvel’s dip in quality content. Sure. Because Guardians Of The Galaxy was SUCh a well known comic book before James Gunn touched it. But we open with Kate Bishop (new Hawkeye), RiRi (Ironheart), and Kamala (Miss Marvel) and go from there. In the first episode, we meet the Black Widow family, with new Black Widow (Yelena) and red Guardian. The older more established characters are zombies. Hawkeye, Captain America (don’t know which version), captain Marvel, and some others start as zombies. They also reference Scarlet Witch as being the Queen of the Dead. There’s a pretty cool surprise character in the first episode I won’t spoil. I enjoyed it, the episode was well described, but some people will hate that I would say Kamala is the lead character right now. They just aren’t vibing with the second generation of Avengers.

Haunted Hotel- while there are still no credits, I’m guessing Liz is writing/narrating. that being said, there’s a lot happening here. It seems to be a highly visual show, with all these different ghosts and demons, used in adult animation style. The audio description is better than i expect it to be, comparatively versus other shows in its genre. The show itself is better and fresher than some other adult animations, but also just feels like ghosts.

The Lowdown- Man I wanted to like this. This show just did not grab me. luckily, Ethan Hawke does. So, I have reason to watch, but the show was a struggle. He’s a reporter in Tulsa, trying to do serious journalism, and uncover corruption when things take a turn. Keith David also popped up in the pilot, along with Jeanne triple horn who I feel like I haven’t seen in ages. the audio description is tansy Alexander, and she does a perfectly fine job. I just wish the show wasn’t trying so hard.

Hotel Costenia- This was… meh. The first episode was interesting, in a fluffy Dr Odyssey kind of way, with the plot being more fun than Jesse Williams in the lead. I just think he’s miscast. He doesn’t have the presence to pull off what this role is asking, for him to be this fixer, who is uniquely good at many things, and one of those things is charming the ladies, but also handling himself in a fight. I feel like this show definitely could have been done better, and with the competition coming, I’d be surprised if I finished this. Audio Description Associates did the AD (Amazon in some magical weird coincidence didn’t immediately start playing the next episode), and Joel Snyder was credited… but that didn’t sound like Joel. then again, I’ve never heard a track narrated by Joel that I’m aware of. But, if this is Joel, he’s also the narrator of the second season of From. I still have a note. It’s just Daniel. Jesse Williams is named Daniel. not Danielle. The pronunciation of his name shouldn’t change because there are Italian characters here (speaking in English) who are pronouncing it with flair. the fact is, he’s American, and he says his own name aloud in the first episode. it is just Daniel. The flair is stylistically unnecessary, thrusting another languages pronunciation into it. It’s like how we in America try to do our best with names from other countries when they come here, and we don’t pronounce Javier with a hard J sound, but instead with that H sound it gets coming from the Spanish text. William’s name would be Danielle (in pronunciation) if he was Italian, but he isn’t. he’s American, playing a character with no accent whatsoever. So, an odd choice, and I’ll be stuck with it all season long of a show I already only kind of enjoyed. IIt’s not enough to make me quit the show over AD, which I’ve only done once that I can remember, but it isn’t fun either.

Only murders In The Building- There’s a robot doorman now, Thea is insufferable, and our three podcasters invite the billionaires over to try and get some dirt on them. More screentime for Renee Zellweger, Logan Lerman, and Christoph Waltz. Playing a bit of catch up now that Disney is no longer pulled from my watchlist “indefinitely”.

Say Something!
