Chad Powers- A former football star and grade A douchebag finds himself in a career crater and not even the XFL wants him. So, when he notices a college football team having an open tryout for a QB spot, he shows up and pretends to be a new alter ego: chad Powers. glen Powell as powers is magic. The show starts a little uneven, but the minute Powell is able to flip that switch, I was rolling with laughter. This pilot had some hilarious moments to it, and I’m excited to see more of Powell as Chad. the audio description was solid, and pointed out the necessary details, especially in the opening catalyst scenario that really wrecks his reputation.
Platonic- Sometimes, I question the writing on this show. most of the time the cast is able to rise above it, but I do find basically everything that happened in this episode to be unrealistic for grown adults. Platonic mostly succeeds when it stays pretty close to relatable scenarios, but when they decide to kayak in the LA river, and then start drinking the water… even after Rogen’s character points out the used condoms in the water, it just loses me. And am I crazy, or did this dog grow exponentially?
Ginny and Georgia- Georgia has to push back against being labeled a serial killer, losing the faith of her current husband, and ending the episode with Child Protective Services taking her kids from her and giving them to the two fathers. it’s a really weird choice, since it separates the siblings.Aren’t they going through enough? It lost me a bit. I’m not thrown by CPS stepping in, but I am thrown by the thought that someone believed splitting the kids up was the best move for them. I would think a better arrangement would have happened.
The Runarounds- this is why we shouldn’t watch Amazon’s “this season on” videos that reveal too much. There was something in that preview that happened in this episode, but I kept waiting for it, instead of being able to enjoy it organically. The audio description was fine, dealing with both some car accidents and a weird Wizard of Oz home.
High Potential- The show’s ratings are up from last season, so expect an early renewal. We seem to close the door on one mystery, while also opening the door to another. I like this show a lot, and I thought Caitlin Olsen had some nice beats here. The audio description was dismal toward the beginning, and I wasn’t even sure it existed. Then finally it started describing things.
The Lowdown- Warming up to this show because of Ethan Hawke’s wild performance. It feels like a Breaking Bad type of crime dark comedy. I could be here for it. The audio description here was solid, especially when it told us what was in the glove box.
The Daily Show- I saw it, to the surprise of no one. We need stuff like this.
Only Murders In The Building- A really oddly written episode with a lot of jokes that missed for me. Charles all of a sudden was on a dating app, taking testosterone, and catching food in his mouth with Tea Leoni. It just missed the USAL mark set by the show, but the audio description was fine. The hilarious murder in this episode was described well.
