TV Shows Watched- Splinter Celll: Death Watch- S1E2 (Netflix) with audio description, Black Rabbit: S1E8 (Netflix) with audio description, Task: S1E8 (HBO MAX) with audio description, The Chair Company: S1E2 (HBO MAX) with audio description, The Sisters Grimm: S1E3 (Apple TV) with audio description, Loot: S3E1 (Apple TV) with audio description
Splinter Cell: Deathwatch- It is solid enough of a series, made straight for adults, that at times I forget this is technically just animation. Netflix has played around with this a few times before with Tomb Raider, Terminator, and resident Evil, but this might be the most successful at feeling like it could be a live action series. Perhaps, this already renewed show will trigger a live action splinter Cell series. Wouldn’t that be cool?
Black Rabbit- Series Finale. Will do a full review. But, my first thought is that the finale is the most intense hour of the show. As it should be.
Task- Also a series finale. My takeaway here is Amelia Jones is coming for that Emmy. She’s brilliant as Maeve, a character who is at the center, without ever driving the plot. All roads run through her, yet she’s not the lead.
The Chair Company- Dave Wallace’s audio description is once again solid as hell, in a series I’m really mixed on. The episode ends with Robinson’s character creeping up on an open closet door, and Dave even drops his voice down a bit to help build the tension, which they just cut from. Still, as someone who watched I Think You Should Leave, and is now watching Tim Robinson do long form work, I’m wondering how well it translates. I think he has a lot of creative control in the writing that SNL cast members don’t get, and they instead have people who write for them, who understand how to make long form content AND what makes their comedian funny, whereas here, he’s trying to do more of a Tim and Eric thing, where he long forms his schtick. But, that didn’t go on for very long outside of Adult Swim.
The Sisters Grimm- The introduction of these fairy tale creatures is fun, and I’m basically at the threshold where I could quit and review, but I think I want to keep going. Of the kids shows I’m watching right now, this is the one I enjoy most as an adult.
Loot- Well, I didn’t love the season premiere, but it did give me Henry Winkler and some nudists, and it fixed a relationship that they needed to, considering I believe this is the final season of Loot. No reason to beleaguer that. Just rip the bandaid off, and course correct. I think this episode did some course correction so we can have a fun final season.
