The Lowdown- It was fun to see Hawke’s character, a journalist, say fake news when his daughter tells him about a character that died and was reported about on the news. Like, wait. What news DO you trust? This isn’t my favorite show, and the more I watch it, it starts sliding down the score chart. I see the election happening, I see Hawke being carted off, and there’s always potential, but I feel there are just stronger shows on TV right now. I could exit this show at any point, but I’m still Fresh, and with it sliding instead of growing, I’m wondering if I would stay fresh if I finished the season.
Twisted Metal- I got one of the worst audio description tracks off my watchlist! As this was a season finale, I’m intending on doing a review. I intend. If not, know that this lowbrow show was fun, I don’t need a third season, and Will Arnett deserves some awards love for his hybrid performance.
Solar Opposites- Man, Dave Wallace just steps up his game. If you’re a fan of his, it’s a great fucking time to be alive. He’s doing Solar Opposites, the Paper, Shifting Gears, and The Chair Company (just off the top of my head), and all of those are varying levels of excellent. While I love many narrators, what I love about Dave is that he’s the best example of what AI is incapable of doing. Emotionally reading a room and understanding the punchline to the joke, and how to land the description around it just right. This is a great track, I love this show, and I wish they’d stick with it forever like the other Adult Animation stalwarts like Family Guy, The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, South Park, King Of The hill, Futurama, and American Dad. Why this isn’t allowed to go at least as long as Rick and Morty (currently in its 8th season) is just unfair.
Devil In Disguise- I instantly got a more responsible vibe from this show than Monster on Netflix, which is getting a lot of backlash from those who did not appreciate the embellishment. Murphy’s shows have a tendency to take an apologist tone for the Monsters, whereas this is presenting much less as that, and more as a docudrama where they stick to the facts… ma’am. The audio description here is still… well.. I can’t escape them can I? But, this show is a little less visually necessary than Twisted Metal, so this comes across as less frustrating.
My Life With The Walter Boys- I wanted Cole to have his Clear Eyes Full hearts moment, or even “the next 10 minutes” speech like in Varsity Blues. his speech kinda sucked, and felt like the Freat American Family version of a better speech.
Tulsa King- After the ominous offer last episode, Dwight now finds out he’s got 99 problems. Also, an FBI agent tries encroaching on Dwight’s area, at the behest of? Solid audio description. No complaints.
Abbott Elementary- After spending a day at the ballpark, it was nice to see the gang back in school… oh never mind. They’re at the DMV now. While it is cute to see our favorite characters interact in different places, putting these two episodes back to back is silly. this may be the season Abbott gets knocked out of the Emmy race. There are a lot of strong contenders, and always some bright new shows. I’m not sure this is heading down the right path.
