The Small Screen Diaries: 11/05/25

TV Shows Watched: Down Cemetary Road: S1E2 (Apple TV) with audio description, Wayward: S1E8 (Netflix) with audio description, Tracker: S3E3 (Paramount Plus) with audio description, Squid Game The Challenge: S2E1 (Netflix) with audio description, The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball: S1E12 (Disney plus) with audio description, and The Paper: S1E10 (Peacock) with audio description

I usually go in order, but I did finish both Wayward and The paper, and intend to do a full review for both. Look for that.

Down cemetary Road- A lovely mystery is unfolding, with some really surprising twists along the way. I gotta say, I did not see the twist coming quite like it did at the end of this. I also am loving the head of whatever clandestine organization is running the secret ops. he’s so catty, and scathing, he’s becoming my new favorite character on the show. Solid audio description so far. I didn’t even notice how odd the flossing was, but I’m glad it made it into the AD.

Tracker- I knew half the episode right away. Then they added another little twist to the whole thing, but basically right up front I smelled the twist, it just had layers to it which you have to wait as things get introduced to really get into. I like Tracker. It also consistently has good audio description. I’m going to assume we weren’t shown what happened to the dog in the flashback sequence, since no one wants to see that.

Squid Game: The Challenge- My God. Slow the fuck down. Holy shit. There’s cutting to the chase, and then there’s just an utter massacre. Let the damn thing breathe. 344 contestants were eliminated in just the first episode, over the first two challenges. My God. So, we have about a hundred players left, and the cliffhanger was another potential elimination. It was so hard to grasp at contestants to like this time around because they are basically just numbers. Like I’m going to remember the numbers. Finally at the end, we get this father/daughter duo, and some names, and I can finally have a straw to grasp at. I love me some Squid Game, but even this first episode was a bit much for me. Lovely Audio description though from IDC, Liz, and Sri. they did last season as well.

The Wonderfully weird World Of Gumball- If you’re an adult, you shouldn’t (or perhaps should?) be high during this episode. Psychedelic stuff was already happening thanks to the nature of this show, and some dangerous cologne. The audio description really tried, and Darren Rivets did a nice narration.
