Death By Lightning- S1E1 (Netflix) wit audio description- So I wanted to jump in on this, because i was waiting to go through this journey with you until the Small Screen Diaries returned. There have been complaints online about the audio description for the show, and it incorrectly labeling people. I’ve certainly heard that before, and when I read someone’s account of it, I noticed the company involved was one of the constant offenders in low quality audio description.I’ll say from my perspective, the first episode already didn’t make sense to me. there’s an entire president between Grant and Garfield. I don’t know how we’re addressing the Rutherford B Hayes of it all, but the series alone had me befuddled. The description, from my point of view, is hard to pin down if you can’t see the screen in the first episode, since a giant chunk of the episode happens in one place. the convention is rather busy, and I’m not sure it is an excellent example of the preciseness of description. You know me, and if I can come for this track, I will. if this track sucks, I’ll call it out, but I saw this with a sighted person, and told them this track had a bad rap online and the reasons, and they couldn’t distinguish any specific times at least for the first episode. I think it might come later, when things aren’t so crowded. As a show, like I said, there’s a whole President missing. I don’t know how we are addressing that. The jury is still out, but I’m gonna have a really hard time finding a fault in Michael Shannon either way. He’s always terrific.
The Daily Show- Monday (Paramount Plus) no audio description: Yes, I still do the thing where I watch Jon Stewart’s episode, even though it doesn’t have audio description. And that is the whole lineup for the day.
